Achievements of Note:
~ Surrey Housing & Homelessness granted $250,000 to the 81st Project. ~ Cloverdale – Bill Reid Place-Building and occupancy now complete. Became fully operational in April 2018. Our shelters and outreach expanded Emergency Weather Response services to 3 communities; now including Delta ~ This fiscal year we saw additional opportunities at Options: MCFD: Multicultural Family Preservation Program for Surrey, Langley, Delta and White Rock (SDA)$450,000 annually MCFD: Domestic Violence Intervention Program (SDA) $300,000 annually MCFD: Youth Services Life Skills (SDA) $180,000 annually Options has been awarded 3-year IRCC SDI (Service Delivery Improvement) funding to deliver a Social Innovations Hub Project in partnership with InWithForward (a social services research agency that brings significant expertise in creating, testing, scaling, measuring and evaluating social services using rigorous experimental approaches). ~ Crisis Line-Increased funding to support a dedicated “Opioid Line” ~ Stopping The Violence Programs -Threshold Multicultural Outreach and the PEACE Program both received permanent increases to funding which allows them to increase staffing hours. We also received $264,000 Federal Government Forgivable Loan for renovations at our two transition homes. These renovations are near completion and have created a safer, more welcoming environment for the women and children who come to our homes. ~ Special Services to Children and Families - is now qualified as an adult community living services provider (CLBC).Opening of our Langley site for our Special Services to Children and Families Program. The new Sensory Rooms were completed our Langley office. These rooms provide a space for children to calm themselves when they are anxious or stressed. ~ Immigrant Services was awarded $20,000 from Surrey Local Immigration Partnership (and the Community Foundation of Canada) to deliver Literacy for Refugee Youth Project as well as a 2 year grant of $12,500 per year from United Way of the Lower Mainland (UWLM) to deliver a Seniors Wellness Project based on UBC Choose to Move Coaching Program. ~ Family and Children Intervention Services - Contracted Dr. Vanessa Lapointe, to create an attachment parenting curriculum based on her book Discipline Without Damage that we would be able to use in groups and with individual families. ~ We took the lead on organizing a 1-day workshop on Trauma-Informed Practice for staff from MCFD, the Surrey School District and nine social service agencies in Surrey. The Surrey Family Connections Collaborative funded the training day that brought together 240 staff from across Surrey. Dr. Lori Haskell is an expert in the prevention, treatment and training on issues relating to violence against women and children. ~ Website relaunch was completed in April, becoming mobile responsive, multilingual and easier for staff to make changes. We were awarded a Google AdGrant in late June – the Google Ad Grant is $10,000 per month ($120,000 per year) on “google adword advertising” ~ Deliberately Developmental Leadership – Our Leadership Team is working towards defining a shared leadership philosophy and approach by working through a guide that is founded on becoming a deliberately developmental organization. In doing so, participants will be developing their own leadership philosophy and approach.
