April 2, 1950 A POSITIVE PROGRAM FOR SUNDAY Psa. 118:24; Mark 2:27; Ex. 20:8-11

The resurrection day, which is gen erally called Sunday, might well be spent as we would spend it if we our selves could visit the eternal realms as Paul did, and then return to live a while longer on the earth. How differently we would live! We would think, act, and talk with reference to eternal values. We would be enthusiastic about the Lord Jesus Christ and about the Father and about the Holy Spirit and His Word. We would want others to know what we had seen beyond the tomb. We would have a message for saint and sinner. We would spend our time wisely and helpfully for others. On the Lord’s Day most work has ceased. Men are at home. Women have more leisure. Children are out of school. This offers an exceptional opportunity to bring to them the precious story of God’s great gifts. Most people know nothing of the heart of God nor of His plans for their blessing. We need to take the message to them and this is the day to do it. Hearts are usually more receptive on Sunday than on other days. People more or less expect to hear about spiritual values on this particular day. Sick ones, suffering ones, and sorrow ing ones are especially expectant on Sunday, hoping that friends will come with messages of cheer. That particular day seems to be unusually long unless some happy heart with a cheery smile and a message from God comes for a visit. We are told to “ comfort one another with these words.” . We are re- We Should Give the Gospel Mark 16:15 We Should Give Comfort 2 Cor. 1:4

minded that we should bear one anothers’ burdens. We should take a deep interest in friends who are in un fortunate and unhappy situations. Let us, therefore, take advantage of that privilege and opportunity and “ comfort those that mourn.” We Should Give Fellowship Heb. 10:25 Our hearts are so constituted that we need the company and the fellowship of one another. We are exhorted to meet together, strive together, work to gether, pray together, and sing to gether. We should help one another in our journey along life’s rough way. Sunday brings the opportunity to us. Offices are closed, shops and stores have suspended business for the day, and so the claims of the world are re placed by the claims of our Lord. We should take advantage of this fellow ship for encouragement and helpful counsel, as well as for enabling people to think less of themselves and more of others. We Should Give Encouragement 2 Chron. 35:2 There is very little in this world to encourage the servant of God. Certainly the devil’s children are not anxious for the blessing of God’s servants. En couragement must come from God’s people. As Christians meet together on Sunday their presence encourages one another and the leaders. Their songs of praise and gifts for the Lord’s work prove their deep interest and their hearts’ satisfaction with the Lord. Their words of help for one another, as well as commendation for teachers and speak ers, give new zest to those who labor in the vineyard of the Lord. Let us give encouragement at all times.
