TRADITIONAL CHINESE VETERINARY MEDICINE: AN ADDITIONAL TOOL FOR BETTER MANAGING DISEASES Ronald Koh, DVM, MS, CVA, CVCH, CVFT, CCRP, CVMMP 8:00 AM - 8:50 AM | Room 211 TCVM, a form of integrative therapy, is a holistic approach that is suited to assessing the well-being of the whole patient and can be used to treat a variety of conditions and health problems with few side effects. This presentation is tailored for the practitioner who is interested in learning TCVM (such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, food theory and tui-na massage). Exposure to complicated TCVM theories, such as Yin-Yang, five elements, pattern differentiation, pathoetiology of diseases, etc is made easier with introductory concepts and basic ideas simplified in this presentation. Case studies will be presented. Location of the points is discussed on people as well as in small animals. Practical applications of these points will be demonstrated, including analgesic points, neuro-stimulatory/ modulatory points, anti-inflammatory points, life-saving points, anti-nausea points, calming points, etc. Many of these points are useful even if only stimulated via acupressure (pressing the point with a finger) and can be helpful to teach owners to do at home. The regulation or lack there of will also be discussed as well as what safety measures are in place.
