KULTURA / CULTURE

Who did you like to “steal” the craft from at the beginning of your career? - That was Paul Newman, Gregory Peck, Sean Connery... men who knew how to be strong on screen, but al- so vulnerable. I was always captivat- ed by the way they carried their fame. Dignified. With style. Without mak- ing a fuss. That’s a rarity. Their charis- ma didn’t come from arrogance, but from sincerity. I try to always carry that within me. And what’s the most important thing to you in your private life? - Family. The people I love and who love me. That is the foundation. With- out that, everything else is empty. What do you do when you’re not filming? - I write. Sometimes music, sometimes essays. I love the ocean, sailing, the si- lence in which I can get lost and re- turn to myself. And I spend time with my children – that’s my best role. I al- so find playing the guitar calming. I like to play the Beatles or something bluesy. That’s like therapy for me. And cooking. There’s no better feeling than - Always. The only difference is that those dreams have changed. As a kid, I dreamed of being an astronaut. Or maybe a rock star. And now I dream about my children being good, healthy and true to themselves. I also dream of directing something big, something personal. That’s because, after all these years, you realise it’s not about play- ing as many roles as possible, but rath- er about finding the roles that are tru- ly yours. The most important dream I dream about today is inner peace. I consider that the greatest victory of any man. What would you say to your younger self? - Don’t fear not knowing what the next step should be. Courage isn’t about having all the answers, but rather about carrying on even when you don't have them. And preserve your curiosi- ty – that’s your greatest treasure. when you feed your loved ones. Do you still have big dreams?

times and declared that he finds the Ser- bian culture and mentality very inspiring. Speaking in this interview for Elevate, Weatherly discusses both of his famous characters - Tony and Bull - the challeng- es of acting in different genres, life in Los Angeles, parenthood and the dreams he still dreams, but also how he managed to remain true to himself in the whirlwind of Hollywood. How do you view the show Bull now that some time has passed? - That was an incredible challenge and journey for me. Doctor Jason Bull is a complex character – intuitive and intelli- gent, but also a man with shortcomings. That story’s return to the small screen arouses fond memories for me, but al- so serves as a reminder of how much I’ve grown as an actor and a person. How did it differ compared to the series NCIS? - NCIS was my big school. Tony DiNoz- zo was charming, witty, slightly mischie- vous – something that came really nat-

urally to me. That role was like “a boy’s dream of heroism”. Tony was humorous, quick-witted and loyal, and within him I found parts of myself. But Bull is...more layered. He isn’t a soldier, but rather an analyst. He carries no weapons, but us- es his mind as his strongest weapon. And I found that fascinating. With that role, I delved deeper into psychology, into is- sues of morality, justice etc. What’s the biggest challenge of acting in a legal drama as it compares to a crime thriller? - Everything in legal dramas is nuanced. The words, looks, silence. Crime thrill- ers have action and mystery, but le- gal dramas seek a deeper internal game. I learned just how important subtlety is. The screenplays for legal dramas are sometimes like a chessboard, filled with rules, logic and intricate moves. That’s precisely what I found to be the biggest acting challenge. You not only have to un- derstand the law, but also human nature. You have to not fake feelings, but rather reveal them. That’s the hardest part.
