T hey are first officers at Air Serbia, among the 11 women who work in the cockpits of the national airline. Dina Milovanović chose Airbus as her “office”, while Sara Golubović, who is still a junior first officer, chose ATR aircraft. It thus comes as no surprise that she gladly flies with Vanja Marcheta, the first female captain on that specific type of plane. She particularly likes the flight to Sarajevo because the view is stunningly beautiful, which is why she recommends that everyone choose that city as their next destination, while Dina, in contrast, remains faithful to typical summer spots... “I fly to all those beautiful cities and islands, to Tivat, Palma de Mallorca, Skiathos etc. I enjoy seaside scenery and can’t wait to go there myself. But not as a first officer aboard a plane, rather as an ordinary tourist,” says Dina Milovanović through laughter. She has spent a full decade at Air Serbia, having had an opportunity to be a member of the cabin crew, after which she became a mother. However, she says that – with the right support both at home and at work – she is able to harmonise everything – both a work at Air Serbia and the most beautiful “job” of being mother to a girl called Una... “I completed my studies at FON [University of Belgrade Faculty of Organisational Sciences], gained employment as a flight attendant and served as a senior cabin crew member for a short time, then I enrolled in and completed the pilot academy. I saw that a woman can be hired as a pilot at Air Serbia, that the doors are open to everyone, and that additionally motivated me,” says this first officer. her maternity leave. She says that the support of her family has been key to her success, and with it everything is easy and beautiful. “Una has yet to fly with her mother in the cockpit, but we’ve flown as passengers. There will soon be opportunities,” concludes Dina. Sara was also motivated by the fact that there are ever more women at Air Serbia,
so she completed the training and went to school in Italy, only to decide to return to Serbia – her heart brought her home. “My family has always supported me, even though there was a little fear initially. They are now proud of me,” says Sara, who wanted to be a military pilot when she was a little girl, but who nonetheless opted to pursue a career in civil aviation.
