Transporting skips – Loaded & Empty
Single Skips – Empty/Loaded
DVSA guidance produced and used by the company on the safe transportation of skips.
• Single skips must be secured to the vehicle (Dedicated skip vehicle) with lifting chains attached and rear hooks in the raised position at all times when in transit. • Only vehicles with Auto Sheeting system to be purchased. • All containers must be sheeted when loaded using the vehicle auto sheeting system. • Drivers issued with a sheeting pole to aid working from the ground. • Keep hands away from moving parts on the sheeting system. • If manual sheeting is required, this must be done with the container on the ground at all times. • Skip chains must be secured to the container. • When no container is on the vehicle the chains must be stowed correctly on the vehicle stow hooks • Handbrake to be applied when loading/unloading taking place and vehicle in neutral gear. • NEVER climb on loads, either on the floor or on vehicle bed. • Know your vehicle height and observe both height and weight restrictions on the highway.
