Method for Sack Collections

1. Sacks are normally left outside customer premises on collection day.

2. Sacks have a weight limit of 10 kg and should not exceed this weight. Sacks are branded with the company details on, and staff are only permitted to collect these.

3. Before the collection commences staff must conduct a dynamic risk assessment checking for hazards such as traffic and environmental conditions and plan their route to and from the vehicle. Operatives should note if there are likely to be any other obstructions or ground level changes such as kerbs etc. Drivers must always ensure that the park brake is fully engaged before exiting the vehicle to prevent the vehicle rolling away and the vehicle gears are in neutral. The Power Take Off (PTO) must also be turned on. 4. Sacks must be tied in a knot at the top of the sack. Always grip this part of the sack to load them into the rear of the hopper. To avoid needle stick injuries or cuts always assume there may be something sharp in the sack and never hold it underneath or clasp it close to your body.

5. Before lifting inspect the sack for any potential sharp objects and before lifting conduct a test lift to determine the weight.

6. Carefully lift the sack into the vehicle hopper ensuring that nothing is spilled from the sack.

7. Ensure the area is tidy, return to the cab, complete the job and proceed to next job.

8. Report any collections issues to the service team.

9. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RETRIEVE ANYTHING FROM THE BIN HOPPER WITHOUT FIRST STOPPING THE COMPACTION CYCLE THEN TURNING OFF THE ENGINE.
