Why Goals Matter The importance of these goals lies in their ability to address both current challenges and future demands. Fort Worth is one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation, and its transportation network must keep pace with rising population and economic activity. Safety is paramount as crash rates remain high, particularly for pedestrians and vulnerable road users. Maintenance strategies under “Fix It First” helps existing infrastructure to remain functional and cost-efficient, reducing long- term financial burdens. Goals focused on comfort and opportunities respond to community calls for better transit, walkability, and inclusive access, while technology and economic competitiveness position Fort Worth as a forward-thinking hub in a rapidly evolving mobility landscape. Together, these goals create a roadmap for a transportation system that is safe, sustainable, and capable of supporting the City’s growth well into 2050.
Incorporating Feedback Moving from identified needs to funded investments requires a clear, transparent process. Findings from community feedback and the Multimodal Gap Analysis (see Chapter 6) were used to identify implementable and fundable roadway and freight infrastructure projects, as well as long-term active transportation and transit policy solutions. Projects recommended through the Multimodal Gap Analysis were evaluated using six weighted criteria, which were informed by the MTP’s established goals. These criteria help prioritized projects reflect community priorities identified throughout the planning process. Through scoring and comparison, these evaluations translate into clear rankings, guiding the prioritization of projects into short-, medium-, and long-term programs.
