6.5.2. Policy Gaps & Recommendations

Analysis Outcomes Fort Worth’s policy framework must evolve to future-proof transportation systems against emerging trends such as autonomous vehicles, climate change, and new mobility options. This requires proactive planning and flexible policies that anticipate technological and environmental shifts. Safety should remain a central priority, with stronger implementation of Vision Zero, expanded Safe Routes to School and Transit programs, and inclusive engagement strategies to support improvements that benefit all communities. Performance-based frameworks should be adopted to monitor outcomes, using metrics such as crash reduction, mode share, and accessibility improvements to guide decision- making. Finally, regional coordination and public-private partnerships will be critical for advancing broadband connectivity, freight planning, and TOD initiatives, helping Fort Worth remain competitive and resilient in the face of rapid growth.

Policy Recommendations ■ Recommendations focus on future- proofing policies for AVs, climate change, and emerging mobility trends. ■ Emphasis on safety with stronger Vision Zero implementation, Safe Routes programs, and inclusive engagement. ■ Suggest performance-based frameworks for monitoring outcomes (e.g., crash reduction, mode share, accessibility metrics). ■ Encourage regional coordination and public-private partnerships for broadband, freight, and TOD initiatives.

The analysis revealed that while Fort Worth has made strides in areas such as Complete Streets and Vision Zero, significant opportunities remain in TOD, climate resilience, curbside management, and connectivity. Addressing these gaps through targeted policy updates will enable the City to better manage growth, improve mobility choices, and prepare for emerging technologies and environmental challenges.
