Regional December 2024

MADD New England 2024 Annual Report

DECEMBER 2024

A Message from our Regional Executive Director Bob Garguilo Happy Holidays, We close 2024 with hope that our work throughout the year exponentially increased awareness of the dangers associated with drinking/drugging, and driving, as well as those associated with underage drinking. We continue to see in New England, and across the country, a significant increase in the number of drivers/pedestrians killed, and or injured due to someone making the wrong decision to drive impaired. MADD will continue to focus on efforts to combat impaired driving, through advocacy, legislation and education, while continually working with the all-to-many victims across the state and region negatively impacted. One life loss is One too many. As we look ahead to 2025, MADD CT will hit the new year “running” – pun intended – as we present the inaugural MADD DRY 5K on January 5th from Fairfield University. MADD has joined forces with one of CT’s Top Race Directors, JB Sports of Branford. JB has organized several first-class, internationally acclaimed races, most notably, the Labor Day New Haven Marathon. Runners and of course, volunteers are welcome! Across the New England Region we will be hosting some new, and exciting public events in the coming months. Please stay tuned! Plus - our Victim Services Team will continue to develop and offer – Victim Centric Activities in person, and virtually. In 2024, MADD went through a organizational re-brand (please check out our new logo), added a MADD Sports initiative designed to reach new demographics through organized sports, and a Driving Change fundraiser for Motor Vehicle Dealers – just a name a few additions we unveiled the year. In the fall, we welcomed MADD Massachusetts’s first Youth Program Specialist – Josie Baragwanath to the team. Josie has started with outreach to many of the underserved communities across the state. Earlier in 2024, Lisa Rivers joined MADD Maine, as MADD’s first on the ground staff member. Lisa is currently working part-time with victim services, and all things MADD across the state.

Please stay tuned for more information as we identify dates, venues, and locations.

In closing, Thank You so much for supporting our mission and helping us Save Lives! Have a Happy, Healthy, Prosperous, and Safe Holiday Season. Hope to see you soon.

All the best, Bob

WELCOMES NEWEST MADD MASSACHUSETTS YOUTH PROGRAM SPECIALIST MADD NEW ENGLAND

Josie Baragwanath

I recently graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a bachelor’s degree and accelerated master’s degree in public policy. Health and Safety policy has always been a focus for me in my studies, and as I launched my career path, I wanted to not only pursue that, but as well as my passion for education. I am so ecstatic to be a part of MADD’s mission, and I look forward to my future with MADD.
