TO THE CHAPTER INVISIBLE

In 1989, Brother Jacobs became the 36th Polemarch of the Baltimore (MD) Alumni Chapter. To say that his admin- istration was successful would be an understatement. Among the 36th Ad- ministration’s achievements include but are not limited to: earning the Paul W. Caine Large Chapter of the Year Award (1991); a record 101 Baltimore Alumni brothers attended the January 27, 1990 Metro Founders Day Banquet, a record which still stands; 125 Christmas bas- kets were distributed to families in need; and the acquisition of the Kappa Family Center (Hanover, MD). During his tenure as Vice Polemarch and Polemarch, Brother Jacobs served as a Delegate to the 1988-1991 Eastern Province Councils and Delegate to the 67th and 69th Grand Chapter Meet- ings. Brother Jacobs served as Execu- tive Assistant to the Senior Grand Vice Polemarch. In 1999, Brother Jacobs was called to serve again, this time as Chief of Staff/Executive Operating As- sistant for the 29th International Grand Polemarch Howard L. Tutman Jr. In this capacity he supported the 29th Interna- tional Grand Polemarch’s vision for Fra- ternity excellence. In addition, Brother Jacobs had oversight of more than 15 National Committees, emphasizing ef- fective management, community service and Prostate Cancer Prevention. Brother Jacobs achieved in the Fra- ternity at both the Undergraduate and Alumni levels as he was received the following recognitions: Eastern Province Award for the Director of Kappa Singing; The Zeta Kappa of Kappa Alpha Psi, the University of Tennessee-Martin Chap- ter (SC) Founders’ Day Award (Guest Speaker); Columbia (MD) Alumni Chapter (E) Guest Speaker Award; and the H.E.W. Citizenship Award. At the 2018 Eastern Province Council, the 28th Eastern Province Polemarch Robert L. Jenkins awarded Brother Jacobs the highest honor available to a member of the Eastern Province- the Pillar of the Province. Brother Robert G. Jacobs is sur- vived by wife, Robin Jacobs, Sons;

Jacobs ,sis- ters; Audrey Smoot(Nathaniel), Linda Washington(Mark) of VA., and Carla Franklin(George) of CA., grandchildren; Terrance Jacobs and Qiana Snowden, great grandchildren Laylah, Quirrah and Nikitah Jacobs and a host of family and friends.

the Delta Eta Chapter Step Team and held the same role for the elite, award- winning, nationally renowned Philly All-Stars Step Team. Brother Barnes graduated from Drexel in 1997 with a degree in structural and civil engineering and began his career with Kiewit Corp. in highway con- struction in northeast Maryland. He later joined Clark Construction Co. in Washington. He later founded Imagine Designs, his own design and construc- tion firm, which he owned and operated until 2010, when he went to work in Linthicum for Energy Systems Group as a senior project manager. His talent for playing the drums would not end with the choir. In 1998, he joined a Spanish gospel group named “Dedicated” (later renamed “Four24”) and would later step into the record- ing studio, playing the drums for the band’s first ever album, “Libre.” He also recorded tracks with other musi- cians and played with the hip-hop group “Serengetti.” Brother Liumbre Domingos (Delta Eta 1998), a member of the Philadel- phia (PA) Alumni Chapter, posted on social media a poignant memoriam of his friend D-Barnes, “My friend and fraternity brother was a dutiful son and brother, a giving neighbor, a gifted musi- cian, an inventive showman, an Ameri- can gentleman, a successful builder & engineer, an unconditionally adoring & relentlessly supportive father, a loving and joyful husband, an unfailingly gra- cious friend and a legendary vanguard of the "Kappa Spirit" from his initiation into the fraternity via the Delta Eta Chapter to his transition to the Chapter Invisible.” Brother Derrick C. Barnes is preceded in death by his father. He is survived by wife and silhouette Davia (née Lilly) Barnes and four daughters: Phoebe, Dylan, Daryn, and Devyn; mother-in- law: Joan Lilly; siblings: Darryl (Ger- trude) Barnes; Camille (Troy) Sawyer; Daphne (Reymond) Moore; Calvin (Crystal) Barnes; and a host of close relatives, friends, band members, and colleagues.

Derrick C. Barnes 1975–2019 Engineer, Project Manager, Musician, Father “

Mrs. Derrick Barnes remembered her husband as “... a hard-working, humble, dedicated family man and loving husband. He was a man who lived his life with integrity, love in his

heart, and a desire to always help others. Derrick never met a stranger and treated everyone as if they were the only person in the room.” Affectionately known as “Bud” or “D-Barnes”, Brother Derrick Barnes entered the Chapter Invisible on August 20, 2019 in Baltimore, MD at the age of 44. Derrick Clemont Barnes was born on April 22, 1975 in Jacksonville, NC to the late Calvin Barnes Sr. and Tronette Barnes. Barnes was raised in the church from an early age where he dis- played a talent for playing the drums and his church choir as their percussionist. After graduating from Jacksonville (NC) High School in 1993, Barnes entered Drexel University located in Philadel- phia, PA where he was very active on the Drexel campus and his talent at being a musician led him to join the Drexel University Gospel Choir. Barnes joined the fraternity as a 1996 initiate of the University of Pennsylvania Chapter, the Delta Eta of Kappa Alpha Psi where he served two years as chapter polemarch. The brothers of Delta Eta selected Barnes as Step Master of
