110 TH ELDER WATSON DIGGS AWARDEE

Edward Kennedy Glass, Jr.

I f it is true that “a leader is at their best when the people they are charged to lead feel empowered to make deci- sions and when his work is done, they strongly feel it was a group effort,” then our next recipient is a leader through and through. Ken Glass is a 1969 initiate of the Wilberforce University Chapter, the Delta of Kappa Alpha Psi. In December, he will celebrate 50 years in the bond of Kappa. He is the Liaison to the Executive Committee and Interna- tional Headquarters for the 33 rd Grand Polemarch Admin- istration. He has served as the Director of Organizational Effectiveness for the 32 nd Grand Polemarch Administration, two-terms Alumni member of the Grand Board of Directors, Executive Operating Assistant and Chief of Staff for the 28 th Grand Polemarch and he served as the Province Polemarch of the Mighty Northern Province for seven years from 1989 to 1995. Professionally, he recently retired after 47 years of service with General Motors Corporation where he held numer- ous leadership positions in several North American Plants before moving to GM’s Corporate Headquarters. His last role was General Motors Assistant Director, in which he played a critical role in establishing a strong foundation and leadership in UAW-GM Work Place Safety. His insights and experience in labor, human resources and his strong desire to make a difference in GM’s transformation of safety culture

have been invaluable. He has been married for 47 years to the Love of his life, his college sweetheart Rudene Weston Glass and is the father of three adult children: Anna Marie, Edward III, and Alana Marie. He also is a proud grandfather to a 5-year- old granddaughter, Mina, who has stolen his heart. Here's to Elder Watson Diggs Awardee, Edward Kennedy Glass, Jr.! “I've had the pleasure of working with and for some of the greatest leaders in the world. I've had the opportunity to work with 11 Grand Polemarchs. And tonight I want to salute the Grand Polemarchs that are here, because without their dedication and commitment to Kappa we would not have been able to achieve the things we've accomplished over the years...Who would ever think that a little boy run- ning around the hills of Kentucky would have this honor bestowed upon me tonight...It's special to me because I grew up in the hills of Kentucky, the same land that our Founder Elder Watson Diggs ran. And I can remember my father and my grandfather talking to me about the Diggs family...So I want to thank you all for your sup- port, your love, your commitment to Kappa. And I ask that we continue to achieve. God bless you.”
