Books, Brotherhood and Business: Gov. Albert Bryan, Jr.

James J. Cox II, Army Airborne Commander of a rapid deployable Airborne Signal Support Detachment for the United States Special Operation Command. He was raised in the growing city of Portsmouth, Virginia; a place that he holds near and dear to his heart for the lifelong friends and motor skills gained that largely contribute to who he is today. Growing up in the Tidewater area of Virginia, it was almost inevitable on the day-to-day that he would come across men and women of our Armed Forces. Whether you were in the city of Hampton and feel the rumbling in the skies from an F-22 Fighter Jet taking off from Langley Airforce Base or driving down I-64 passing large fleets of military convoys. "These experiences drew me close to home for me, as my father was an Active Duty Army First Sergeant at the time. My father, James J. Cox Sr. would have a huge impact on my gravitation toward joining the Army. I remember as a child attending Army events with him and fanaticizing over his shiny medals and achievement coins around the house", said Cox. "Without sounding too cliché, I often say the Army has been the best job I ever had. I truly love every aspect of this profession, both good and bad. I enjoy the structure it places in my life; I enjoy the other professionals it has allowed me to bond with and I love the opportunity to lead some of the greatest Soldiers it has provided me. Hands down, the best job I ever had".

"I vividly remember Freshman Week at Howard when all the Greek Fraternities were out in the yard showcasing their steps and chants. Without hesitation, I recall looking into the Kappa plot, where the brothers were dressed the best, twirling canes and seemed to be the most passionate. At that moment, I began to do my research, learning about the Fraternity, its mission, and how it aligned with my goals and future endeavors". ~ Jimmy Cox Why did you choose to become a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity?
