and redevelopment initiative to provide a modern, lively, downtown atmosphere found in other, competing downtown housing markets. “Every iconic city has an open space that serves as the heart of the community,” said Mayor John Labrosse, Jr. “Atlantic Street Park is the beginning of a comprehensive approach to creating a welcom- ing community and a vibrant economy.” “We expect people will enjoy it as a place to eat their lunch, take a stroll in the evening, enjoy a show or concert, and
many other cultural events that the city is not equipped to host at this time,” said Je- rome Lombardo, chairman of the board for the Upper Main Street Alliance. "Eventually, the park will serve as a con- nector between the city's new cultural arts center and a fully revitalized Main Street." The park will include an am- phitheater for outdoor perfor- mances, grass areas, trellises, seat-walls, benches and street trees and lights that define the perimeter of the park along Warren, Atlantic and State Streets. “The construction of this project represents another important step in the City’s continuing efforts to revitalize the downtown,” said Francis Reiner of DMR Architects, “Without the leadership of the Mayor and Council this project would not have been possible.” In addition to the public open spaces the plan includes increasing parking availability in the area from 63 spots to 93 spots by include both on-street parking and by opening up the Atlantic Street Parking Garage for daily use. n Advance Realty, DeBar to l o Dev . form joint venture partnership HARRISON, NJ — Ad- vance Realty and DeBarto- lo Development, LLC , have formed a joint venture part- nership to develop six build- ings on three blocks within the Riverbend District of Har- rison. The large-scale mixed- use project will serve as the centerpiece in the continued revitalization of the Hudson County town. The first block to be devel- oped, located at the corner of Cape May St. and Frank E. Rodgers Blvd., is slated for vertical construction to begin in early 2015. The building will feature 286 luxury multi- family residences. When com- pleted, the project will include 1,000 apartments and 20,000 s/f of premium retail space on the three blocks. “This joint venture between Advance and DeBartolo is ready to begin an exciting chapter of urban transforma- tion,” said Edward Kobel , president and chief operating officer of DeBartolo Develop- ment. n
