THE VERDES HABITAT PROJECT Making dreams come true . . .

The Verdes Habitat for Humanity volunteers are ready to start building home #29. That’s one every year since 1995; a success story for sure. The building site is in Alta Vista Ranch in Phoenix, and the fundraising goal is $130,000. The recipient of the home will be introduced at Verdes church services in December, on a date to be announced soon. Habitat for Humanity homeowners must meet these requirements and more: They must be gainfully employed, able to pay a no-interest mortgage, have excellent credit, and pledge to complete 400 hours of sweat equity building the home. Reasons to help: The following are quotes from recent Verdes Habitat families. “Because of our new home, we no longer worry about rent increases, and that has helped us become financially healthy.” “It’s easy to take a home for granted if you’ve always had the benefit of one. When you’re unable to qualify, it’s deflating. That’s where we were…unable to move beyond apartment living and paying way more than we could afford. Your support for Habitat may seem like a small thing, but for families like ours, it’s everything!” How you can help: 1) Contact Pete Sturman (Tonto Verde) to get on the carpool list to help build the house. sturmanp@cox.net 2) Watch for a flyer in your mailbox from Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona, Verdes. You’ll probably receive other notices from Habitat’s national headquarters, but to support the Verdes project, all donations need to go to Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona, Attn: Verdes Project, PO Box 39730, Phoenix. 85069. 3) For more information, contact Christie Gorsline at 503-530-0594 christiewrite@yahoo.com.
