THE NEWEST LIP-ENHANCING TECHNOLOGY SEPTEMBER 2017 LOVE YOUR LIPS AGAIN

How often do you look in the mirror and think, “If only my lips looked like they used to …”? If the answer

at Beautique Medical Spa! Volbella is the new, FDA-approved injectable that can give you back the lip plumpness you are missing. Whether you have small lines or fine wrinkles in the lip area, Volbella is the latest option to minimize those imperfections. Your lips have delicate surfaces, and Volbella treats them that way. It uses a smaller hyaluronic acid particle size than other injectables to treat fine lines and target only small wrinkles. Instead of overfilling the area, you get a more natural look. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar molecule, so Volbella makes use of something that’s already in your body. The treatment restores some of the lost hyaluronic acid that happens during aging, revitalizing the lips you love. If you’re worried about pain, feel at ease with Volbella. As is always the case with our injectables, we use the smallest needles possible to make the process relatively painless. Another perk of Volbella is that it contains a small amount of lidocaine, a local anesthetic that will reduce pain and make the injections more comfortable for you. Why is Volbella different from other fillers? It is the first lip augmentation filler that’s FDA approved to target those unwanted perioral lines (sometimes called smoker lines) that tend to show up around the mouth. It utilizes filler technology called Vycross to give longer-lasting results and a smoother, more natural feel to the lips. Volbella is part of the Juvéderm family of specialized products that are used to reach specific areas and get you the results you desire. Another benefit of Volbella? Recovery time is short, and we can adjust treatment based on your schedule. People are typically able to return to their usual activities after getting Volbella. You’ll want to avoid sun exposure and extreme exercise for the first 24 hours, but you should be able to return to most activities as usual. As technology advances, we at Beautique are always on the lookout for what’s going to give you the best results while being the least invasive. That’s what Volbella has to offer. It’s a nonsurgical lip augmentation that gives you longer-lasting results. We know you worry about lip injections that give you overfilled lips. At Beautique, we pride ourselves on using treatments that give you a natural, youthful look, and that’s why we are using Volbella. Call Beautique Medical Spa today to learn more about the benefits of Volbella and to schedule your consultation. Our experienced providers will walk you through the treatment, answer any questions you have, and help you decide if it’s the right treatment for your lip lines. We look forward to sharing all the amazing benefits of Volbella with you!

HOW TO DEMYSTIFY YOUR KIDS’ JAMPACKED SCHEDULES Extracurricular OVERLOAD

As school starts up again, so do sports, and your kids’ extracurricular ambitions pile up like the falling autumn leaves. Managing their schedules can seem impossible, but don’t let yourself get burned out. Here are some tips on how to stay sane in the midst of the extracurricular whirlwind. Consolidate all your scheduling, jotting, and activity-tracking strategies into one system. You can’t afford to be scrawling “Abby piano lesson rescheduled 9/21” on the first scrap of paper you come across. That doesn’t mean you have

to be hyperorganized, but it does mean that you need to keep your entire calendar in one place, whether that place is Google Calendar, a fridge whiteboard, or the old-fashioned standby: a calendar with a lighthouse on every page. Whichever system you choose, keep it updated. Its word is law. Form parent alliances. It’s vital that you and your partner coordinate availability and who’s driving who when, but you should go further than that. Those soccer practices Jacob’s going to? There are other teammates there, and those teammates have parents shuttling them around, just like you are. Set up carpools to

manage scheduling conflicts between your kids and drastically reduce the time you spend as a chauffeur. Maintain balance. This might come as a surprise, but you will have to say no to your child every now and then. Sure, simultaneous baseball, football, and soccer seasons might seem healthy and fun for your kid, but you need to consider your own needs, as well. Many parents give their children free rein over what to choose, but limit activities to one or two per season. Make sure you weigh each child’s needs equally, and keep the rules the same for each of them.

FRACTIONAL RESURFACING REJUVENATES SKIN USING SMART LASERS THE FUTURE IS NOW

People have been using lasers to create healthy, vibrant skin for over a decade now, but the technology continues to improve — and so do the results. Today’s procedures use the same carbon dioxide laser technology, but with more sophistication and intelligence than ever before. When the laser touches the skin, it shrinks fiber and stimulates the collagen. We talked last month about what happens when you heat up collagen — a thickening of the dermis and stimulation of growth that results in healthier, rejuvenated skin. Fractional resurfacing does just that, but the collagen can remain stimulated

for months, meaning your skin will improve and continue to improve for up to a year! It’s called “fractional” resurfacing because we don’t laser the entire area of skin; the laser is emitted in bursts that touch the skin evenly across the targeted area, but without touching every single skin cell. Because only some of the skin is affected, the recovery time is much faster, and the results tends to be better than with non-

fractional treatment. Speaking of which, we can also adjust the results and recovery time for this procedure to flex around your busy schedule. Resurfacing is a great way to fight wrinkles and fade scars, and it works very well as a general anti-aging procedure. It’s also a healthy, natural way to treat other areas of the body besides the face — which means you can get the same great results elsewhere as well!

THE MUSEUM OF WHAT? The World’s Strangest Museums

Museums are a staple of vacations no matter where you travel. Everyone has heard of the Louvre and the Smithsonian, but you might be surprised to learn about some of the stranger museums around the world. For nearly every passion, there is a building somewhere dedicated to it. Take a look at some of the weirdest. Sulabh International Museum of Toilets Delhi, India A functioning toilet is something everyone takes for granted until they don’t have access to one. In India’s capital, you can explore the fascinating history of commodes. From primitive examples you would never use today to gold-plated bathroom thrones from palaces across the world, the variety of toilets on display is staggering. Divided into three sections — ancient, medieval, and modern —

only one dedicated to less-than-successful artistic endeavors. The Museum of Bad Art, or MOBA, promotes itself as the home of “art too bad to be ignored.” A trip to MOBA will leave you smiling, laughing, and feeling a little better about the fact that you’re not Picasso. Momofuku Ando Instant Ramen Museum Osaka, Japan It’s not just college students and video gamers who love ramen. Since the invention of the instant noodles by Momofuku Ando in 1958, ramen has evolved into a beloved dietary staple from Japan to Jamaica. The museum named after its creator offers you the chance to look at some of the strangest versions from around the world. As an added bonus, you can even design your own packaging. Bring along some chopsticks, as there are plenty of samples to slurp up. The Kansas Barbed Wire Museum Rush County, Kansas Plenty of museums are hands-off, but that’s usually to protect the precious objects held within. At the Kansas Barbed Wire Museum, not touching the exhibits is just sound advice. The development of barbed wire was instrumental in settling the American West, and this museum pays tribute to the ingenuity of those farmers who wanted to make sure their cattle stayed on their property and thieves stayed out.

you’ll be shocked at how much you can learn about history and culture through an examination of the ways a society flushes (or doesn’t). The Museum of Bad Art Dedham, Massachusetts There are plenty of museums dedicated to exceptional artwork from history, but
