The Nation Municipality’s 2017 budget estimates have been approved by the Members of Council during their last meeting, held last Monday, December 19, 2016.There will be no increase in tax rates for2017. Residential properties’ evaluations (single detached homes) decreased by 0.39 per cent on average, whereas agricultural properties’ evaluations increased by 16.67 per cent on average. Shoplifting charge Police have charged Melissa Duval, 35, of Vankleek Hill in Champlain Township, with theft under $5000 value and breach of probation after investigation of a reported shoplifting incident at the Canadian Tire outlet in Hawkesbury, on Dec. 12. Store security camera footage showed her leaving the store with a cordless hand vacuum. Police incident brief noted that Duval was on a probation order at the time of the incident, which would be considered a breach of her release conditions. During a patrol along Main Street in Hawkesbury, just after midnight on Dec. 2, Const. Simon Bourdeau intercepted a 2005 blue Mazda 3 on suspicion of a highway traffic regulation infraction. The officer then discovered that the driver, Jason Kelly, 29, of Hawkesbury, was driving with a suspended licence. The officer also discovered Kelly had some mari- juana and methamphetamine in his possession. Kelly was charged under the Criminal Code with driving while impaired due to a narcotic and charged under federal narcotics regulations with possession of marijuana and metham- phetamine. He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with driving while his licence is suspended. Kelly’s car was impounded for seven days and his driver’s licence suspended on-site for 90 days. Suite à la réévaluation des propriétés par Société d’évaluation foncière des munici- palités (MPAC) en 2016, l’évaluation des propriétés résidentielles (maisons unifami- liales détachées) a diminué enmoyenne de 0,39 %, tandis que l’évaluation des proprié- tés agricoles a augmenté en moyenne par 16,67 %. De ce fait, il y a environ 300 000 $ qui seront générés de plus en taxes, ce qui représente une augmentation de 2,79 % du revenu neutre de l’année passée. La municipalité de La Nation prévoit plusieurs gros projets pour l’année 2017, entre autres, au chapitre de l’environnement, de l’eau et des égouts, des travaux publics, ainsi que celui de la récréation et des loisirs. En effet, afin d’être proactifs et dans l’op- tique d’un environnement sain et sécuritaire, Fournier et Limoges verront la construction de deux centres de transfert saisonnier de déchets domestiques dangereux à leurs dé- potoirs. Ces centres accepteront les déchets domestiques dangereux des résidents de La Nation gratuitement, tous les samedis entre la mi-mai et la mi-octobre.

Maxime Séguin, 24, of Grenville-Sur-La- Rouge, QC, is wanted on a warrant resulting froman incident, Dec. 20, just after midnight, when police were called to a residence in The Nation. Séguin had fled the scene in a stolen vehicle, which was found abandoned several hours later. Séguin is wanted for break-and-enter, uttering threats, weapon assault, andmotor vehicle theft. He is six-foot-four, with brown eyes, and a heavy build, weighing between
