The kingdom's new AI Tourism Vision turns digitalisation from a collection of useful tools into national infrastructure, connecting entry, discovery, commerce, regulation, pilgrimage and destination management Saudi Arabia's AI travel leap
W hen Saudi Arabia unveiled its AI Tourism Vision on June 28, 2026, the significant word was not only “AI". It was "vision". The Ministry of Tourism is proposing that intelligence should run through the entire visitor economy, from destination discovery and business licensing to hotel operations, pilgrimage management and the flow of people through airports and new resorts. "Artificial intelligence is now reshaping how we discover destinations, design experiences, and manage tourism services," Tourism Minister, His Excellency Ahmed Al Khateeb said at the launch. In a separate statement, he added: "Our ambition goes
beyond deploying new technologies.” The strategy is organised around five linked ambitions: setting global standards; delivering seamless and personalised visitor services; making tourism businesses smarter and more productive; embedding trusted, ethical and sustainable AI; and giving the entire value chain access to new capabilities. That makes it much more than a chatbot strategy. It is an attempt to create an intelligent operating system for tourism. It's very good timing given Saudi Arabia recorded about 123 million domestic and inbound tourists in 2025, with spending reaching a record SAR 304 billion (US$81.06 billion).
