Digital licensing, verification and AI-assisted business tools can shorten processes, make compliance more visible and help smaller firms professionalise TourismX's value will therefore be measured less by the novelty of individual generators than by whether it improves the productivity and consistency of thousands of operators. PILGRIMAGE AS PROOF AT SCALE The clearest evidence that Saudi Arabia can operate digital tourism systems at exceptional scale comes from religious travel. Nusuk has developed into a unified digital companion for Hajj and Umrah, serving more than 51 million users in more than 190 countries and offering 130-plus services. These range from permits and bookings to interactive maps, guidance and mobility information. During the 1447 AH Hajj season, smart sensors and readers linked to the Nusuk Card were deployed in Mina to monitor operational activity and pilgrim flows in real time. The Baseer platform uses AI and computer vision to support crowd and security management at the Two Holy Mosques and access points. The AI Tourism Vision also builds on Smart Inspector, which supports field teams, and Smart Check-In, designed to improve the reception and distribution of pilgrims across accommodation facilities. This is digital destination management in its most consequential form. Personalisation is important, but so is safety, capacity and coordination. Saudi Arabia's experience of connecting permits, identity, transport, accommodation, guidance and crowd analytics for millions of pilgrims gives it a real-world test bed few destinations can match. DESTINATIONS AS DIGITAL SYSTEMS Saudi Arabia's new leisure destinations are also being planned as connected systems rather than collections of individual hotels. Red Sea Global has described The Red Sea as a smart destination supported by interconnected services, a Smart Destination Platform and a central Destination Control Centre. Its management systems are intended to personalise services and manage visitor flows, helping to reduce overcrowding and delays. Transport is becoming part of the same connected layer. Saudi Arabia Railways and flynas have developed unified booking between flights and the Haramain High- Speed Railway. Saudia uses cloud-based, real-time analytics across fleet management, dynamic pricing and guest satisfaction. In the private sector, Almosafer says AI-generated review summaries and content tagging have lifted conversion by 20%. It has also become the first Saudi company with an app offering travel services through ChatGPT, giving users conversational access in Arabic and English to more than 1.5 million hotels, personalised recommendations and multi-city itinerary planning.
