The long view

W hen the calendar turns to 2031, Expo 2030 Riyadh will still have three months to run. Four years later, Saudi Arabia will host the FIFA World Cup. AlUla’s development horizon stretches to 2035, Red Sea Global has environmental targets extending to 2040 and the Saudi Green Initiative reaches all the way to net zero in 2060. The first years after Vision 2030 are already filling up. Vision 2030 has created an economic framework designed to endure beyond individual projects, with new institutions, investment platforms and industries, and a much larger role for the private sector. The Vision 2030 Annual Report describes 2026 as the start of its third delivery phase, focused on sustaining progress. The Public Investment Fund (PIF) is making a similar transition. Its 2026-2030 strategy moves from rapid expansion to “value realisation”, prioritising returns, investment efficiency, private-sector participation and developing Saudi companies capable of competing internationally.

Saudi Arabia is already planning beyond its 2030 milestone. The

following decade will be about turning extraordinary investment into enduring economic value, while Saudi travellers, businesses, talent and capital take a bigger place in the global travel economy.
