The 7C Leadership Compass

Look Beyond the Horizon: Purpose and Vision

Your Development Journey: A Realistic Roadmap Embracing the 7Cs is a commitment to continuous growth. This journey is not linear; it is a spiral where you revisit the same principles at increasingly deeper levels. Here is a roadmap to guide your journey:

Phase 1: Diagnosis and Awareness (Months 1-2) • Complete the 7C self-assessment (Tool 1) to gain a view of your behaviors versus results and identify your starting point • Read the “Pitfalls to avoid” sections of each C to explore your blind spots • Identify your “translators” – people who can challenge you with consideration • Assess your competencies (Tool 4), create an improvement plan Phase 2: Foundations (Months 3-6) • Focus on the first 4 Cs (Confidence, Consideration, Collaboration, Constancy) • Practice the “If-Then Reflexes” to anchor behaviors • Request 360° feedback: specifically ask where you fall into the pitfalls • Document your “moments of truth” – when you discovered a blind spot • Create a targeted action plan: choose 1-2 pitfalls to work on this quarter

Phase 3: Expansion (Months 7-12) • Build toward Credibility, Courage, and Creativity • Incorporate the practices from Appendix A (Neuroscience) to strengthen each C • Share your pitfalls with your team to normalize vulnerability • For complex decisions, refer to Credibility (Ch. 3) and Consideration (Ch. 2) • Measure your progress: revisit the complete s elf-assessment (Tool 1) Phase 4: Integration and Radiance (Year 2+) • The 7Cs become second nature – you no longer “do,” you “are” • You develop 7C leadership in others • You continue to revisit the spiral at increasing levels of depth

Living the 7Cs requires more than a moral compass; it requires a destination. Your Purpose is your deeply rooted reason for being and anchors your leadership in something greater than yourself. Your Vision describes the impact you aim to create over the next 10 years and gives direction and meaning to your daily actions. Together, Purpose and Vision transform the 7Cs from a set of principles into an intentional journey. Case Study: A leader shares, “During COVID-19, we lost 80% of our revenue but kept our team intact. How? Through trust and clarity of purpose.” It is not Courage alone that helps navigate storms, but Courage anchored in a clear Purpose and a shared Vision. When your team understands the “why,” they can endure any “how.” Action Questions: Take a moment to reflect: What is my personal Purpose? What is my 10-year Vision for my team and organization? How does my Unique Ability serve this Purpose? What difficult decisions does my Purpose help make clearer?
