4 TIPS FOR STICKING WITH YOUR RESOLUTIONS
The new year is the best time to take advantage of the fresh slate and turn over a new leaf. Many people set goals to change bad habits into good ones, reach new milestones, or visit new places on their bucket list. However, statistics have shown that by mid-January, many people give up on their New Year’s resolutions. In fact, Jan. 17 has been dubbed “Ditch New Year’s Resolution Day” or “Quitters Day.” This is largely due to setting unrealistic goals or failing to hold yourself accountable for the resolutions you set out to accomplish. Despite our good intentions, many of us don’t know how to keep our resolutions.
the holidays. However, when you’re this broad, it allows for a bunch of wiggle room. One day, you’ll feel that it’s okay to deviate just a bit from your ambitions, and the next day, you may deviate a little more, simply because you don’t have any set “rules” for yourself. Instead of choosing ambiguous resolutions, opt for a specific and achievable goal such as eating healthy every day of the week, allowing one cheat meal in that week, and making it to the gym four days a week for one hour. Don’t overdo it. Focus on just one goal at a time. While you may have a long list of areas in your life that you’d like to improve, focusing on just one thing will allow you to put all of your marbles into one basket and give it your all. Taking on too much at once can become daunting and can compromise your efforts to achieve your goals.
