The paid now, serve later salary system

remains in effect for Hawkesbury town

council, despite objections from two

members about the unique tradition.

For decades, Hawkesbury town council

have received one-third of their salaries in

advance, with this sum being deemed to be

for expenses incidental to the discharge of

their duties as representatives.

At Monday’s meeting, council voted to

stick with the system. Councillors Michel

Thibodeau and Johanne Portelance voted

against the practice of paying the one-third

amount in January.
