MARK SCHUNEMANN

“Hush now. It’s a secret.”

My story centres on the obsessive quest for an unattainable colour in the form of an everyday walk through Westminster. Seeking the elusive while trapped within the confines of reality is what really caught my interest. The three places the narrator visits are symbolic manifestations of the Freudian mind: Westminster Cathedral is the ego, the self, where the narrator seems most comfortable; the nostalgia shop is the id, the primitive part of our personality; and the illuminated room above Britain’s control centre is the superego, the ideal, that which reflects and dictates the social standards of the day.
