Inspiring Kindness & Generosity

Alisa Lingley entered the world on December 30, 1964, alongside the Ohio River in rural northern Kentucky. She was born with a severe facial and mouth deformity that impeded speech, sight, hearing, and cognitive development. At the age of sixteen—after having the first of three major maxillofacial surgeries—she began classical voice lessons as part of the healing process. As a student, while awaiting her next surgery, she watched as her peers prepared for their futures and talked of college. Though saddened, she was happy to hear about their dreams, knowing college was years away for her, if ever…

Looking back—with no regrets—she developed a deep compassion for others and came to the realization that all things are possible—if we believe. She also embraced the age-old adage “what does not kill us, makes us stronger.” She would not trade the pain and anguish of her youth for the lessons she had learned. After graduating High School in Arcadia, Louisiana, she moved to South Indian Lake Manitoba, Canada and served two years helping missionaries aid the Cree Indians.
