EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Coventry University is a dynamic, modern university with a proud tradition as a provider of high quality education and a focus on applied research. The University ranked 13th in the Guardian University Guide 2019 and was voted University of the Year for Student Experience in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019. We are continuing the evolution of the Univer- sity Group and as we look to build on our po- sition of strength we aim to continue to create state-of-the-art campuses for our students, staff and visitors. Our Strategy to 2021 will enhance our position as a leading provider of innovative education and impactful research both nationally and internationally, reinforced by the fact that we were awarded the Gold rating and ranked 2nd in the UK for Teaching Excellence in the Teaching Excellence Framework (2017). A very high quality of estate provision is a key enabler to this.

We have invested £500m in the estate in the last 9 years including the addition of a ground-breaking £55m Engineering and Computing Building, an award-winning £35m Student Hub as well as the new £64m Science & Health Building which was opened in 2018 by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. To deliver the vision of the Corporate Strategy we have ambitious future Estate Development plans with several key projects underway including a second building for the Engineering and Computing Faculty, the redevelopment of the Faculty of Art and Humanities Building and a new home for our CU Coventry subsidiary. In addition we are moving ahead with the masterplanning and redevelopment of the 4.3 acre City Council Civic Centre site to create a truly world class headquarters which will give the University a real focal point for students, local people and visitors.

In recognition of the size of the University’s capital programme the Deputy Director Estate Development takes an influential role as the lead driver for the delivery of the major and high-profile projects that emanate from the University Group Corporate Strategy. Reporting to the Group Director of Estate Development, the post holder will lead teams in the provision of professional construction, project management and building engineering services for major projects across the University Group. We are seeking an individual with a proven track record of leading a large-scale estate development projects up to and in excess of £50m in value from inception to completion in a client side or client advisory role. You will have strong leadership and management skills, and the practical skills and industry experience to lead major estate development projects confidently in a large, complex organisation.
