critical component of ensuring firefighter safety is the proper design and placement of standpipe systems, which play a vital role in fire suppression and emergency response. However, the requirements for standpipe hose connection locations can vary significantly across jurisdictions, as both the International Fire Code (IFC) and NFPA 14, Standard for the Installation of Standpipe and Hose Systems, grant the Fire Code Official or Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) considerable discretion in these matters. Many times, jurisdictions will have additional requirements codified in local ordinances, but often, they are dictated by operational needs, or even arbitrary policies.
