02 YOUR SAFETY MATTERS
ICC Building Safety week campaign for International Building Safety Month (May): May was Building Safety Month, an international campaign to raise awareness about building safety! 2025’s theme was “Game On!” During WEEK 1 , “The Warm Up” (May 1-3), the code compliance community highlighted how building safety impacted our daily lives - from the offices where we work, to the schools in which our children learn, to where we enjoyed leisure activities. We wanted to highlight a few of our team members who had demonstrated a strong commitment to building safety.. “Building codes and safety standards help ensure the places we work are designed and constructed with our well- being in mind.” -Jessie Oswald, CBO “Building codes and safety standards have an impact on the places we play by ensuring a safe experience for every individual. Enforcing these standards helps to ensure that everyone can enjoy themselves in safe and secure environments.” -Danny Svoboda, CBO WEEK 2 , brought the International Code Council’s Building Safety Month campaign in full swing, emphasizing the local promotion of building safety. This week’s theme was “Build Your Offense,” encouraging community action to support building safety programs. Bureau Veritas had committed to collaborating with various communities across the US, partnering with organizations like the Building Officials of Texas, Florida, and ICC branches nationwide. We all had a role to play in ensuring safe places to live, work, and play. We spoke up about building safety - from local media outreach to advocating with community leaders. Small actions made a big impact and saved lives. Together, we built a stronger, safer future. WEEK 3 , featured Ty Chapman, Facilities Director of Field Operations, who had served a two-year term on the Building Officials Association of Texas (BOAT) board, during which time Bureau Veritas had been deeply involved with the organization. Established around 10-15 years prior, BV’s comprehensive disaster response
program had deployed Ty and other staff to areas affected by natural disasters, where they conducted damage assessments, supported power restoration, and assisted local jurisdictions in expediting permits to help displaced residents return home quickly. BV and BOAT also provided guidance to municipalities on building code adoption to enhance community resilience. As a result, BV had recently had a disaster relief training program approved by the International Code Council to further strengthen emergency preparedness and response capabilities through these collaborative initiatives. WEEK 4 of Building Safety Month was all about introducing the starting lineup of building safety professionals and the crucial roles they played. This lineup of silent defenders provided expert guidance to architects, engineers, and contractors, ensuring safety was the top priority as new buildings took shape. They also worked tirelessly to keep existing structures safe through thorough inspections and staying up-to-date on the latest building codes. That week, we highlighted some of the Bureau Veritas all-stars who made a difference every day. Whether you needed advice on a home renovation, were buying a new house, or just wanted to know when to call in a building safety pro, this starting lineup had you covered. We wanted you to meet the diverse players on our team - from the coaches calling the shots to the linemen working behind the scenes. These building safety experts were the MVPs of protecting our communities. WEEK 5 ,explored how Generative AI was revolutionizing the industry, empowering professionals with tools to quickly analyze data, identify risks, and make informed decisions. From spotting structural issues to predicting equipment failures, AI was helping us stay one step ahead and keep our communities safe. And the innovation did not end there – Bureau Veritas had recently acquired cybersecurity firm Security Innovation to bolster its AI and software security capabilities. Plus, the company had expanded its sustainability offerings with the acquisition of Aligned Incentives and its AI-powered life cycle assessment solutions. Bureau Veritas had also announced the acquisition of ArcVera Renewables, a specialized provider of finance-grade consulting and technical services for wind, solar, and battery storage projects. This strategic move aligned with Bureau Veritas’ LEAP | 28 strategy to create a new stronghold in the fast-growing renewables sector. The future of building safety is here, and it’s powered by cutting-edge technology.
