THRIVE IN SPI • SPRINGFIELD SANGAMON GROWTH ALLIANCE

SPRINGFIELD: A UNIVERSITY

TOWN IN DISGUISE

It may just be the area’s best-kept secret. While Springfield isn’t officially known as a “university town,” we definitely meet the qualifications. Our significant post-secondary options have a growing reputation for excellence and students from across the U.S. and internationally are realizing this is the place to be. Just on the outskirts of the city are two thriving higher education institutions with increasing enrollment, largely driven by in-demand academic programs and booming development. In addition, we’re educating and training the world’s future physicians and nurses. Southern Illinois University’s School of Medicine is one of the best medical schools in the Midwest (arguably in the nation), performing groundbreaking research and implementing new medical advancements in teaching every year. St. John’s College of Nursing immerses students in nursing theory and practice through baccalaureate and master’s degree nursing programs. When you also consider the robust technical training available at vocational college Midwest Technical Institute, you don’t need to go beyond Springfield for quality post-secondary education in any career of interest.
