Best of Cruise February 2023

A floating safari aboard the Zambezi Queen is a voyage into rapture. Conveying just 28 passengers, this comely craft plies 25 kilometres of the Chobe River where visions of a primeval Africa abound. Forming a natural border between Botswana and Namibia, this watercourse has been a magnet for wildlife since time immemorial. Therein lies the magic, as guests soon discover, on this floating halcyon, the animals come to you. Boasting ten Suites and four Master Suites, the Zambezi Queen’s generous accommodation offers king-size or twin beds, ensuite showers, and private balconies with full-length glass sliding doors that open onto a timeless scene beyond the mirror-flat surface of the river. The contemporary design theme is endorsed by evocative black- and-white prints which enhance the cool chic

vibe. On the top deck, an outdoor shaded terrace has a plunge pool, while inside there’s an air- conditioned lounge, bar and restaurant. The hospitality team is on hand to dispense cocktails and fine South African wines; as well as deftly serving breakfast and dinner; lunch is buffet-style. The cuisine is mainly South African with local influences. After falling asleep to the inimitable sounds of the African bush, guests awake as the riverboat leaves its mooring at Chenku and sails serenely along the Chobe River. One excursion is a tender-boat ride to the Chobe National Park, where guests observe some of the 120,000 elephants for which the park is renowned. The sight of families of tuskers on the riverbank playfully showering each other with water and mud underscores the enthralling

nature of this singular adventure. So too does the sundowner tender-boat cruise when the naturalist guides pour liberal gin and tonics as beady-eyed hippos ripple the mirror-flat surface of the river. This is a compelling river journey in consummate comfort through a speck of untamed Africa. _____
