The following information is an overview of timelines, funding, and some of the major factors impacting District budgeting.
California Budget Timeline
Budget Timelines for Local Education Agencies (Districts)
September - March: LEA staff are monitoring projected expenditures and revenues. December: LEA staff present first report to the Board of Trustees. March: LEA staff present second report to the Board of Trustees. June: A public hearing on the budget, where the community can give input. On or before June 30: LEA Board of Trustees must adopt a budget. August: Districts must revise their adopted budget to reflect the State’s actions within 45 days after the Governor’s signature on the State Budget.
