Senior Companion Program

Senior Companion Volunteers Can Empower Your Non-Profit!

Friendship | Moral Support | Companionship | Transportation | Respite Senior Companion Volunteers Offer Meaningful Service to Older Adults!

Would your agency better serve older adults with a team of dedicated volunteers? If so, PCOA’s Senior Companions may be able to help! Senior Companions is an AmeriCorps Seniors National Service program matching volunteers 55+ with independent older adults who would benefit from meaningful one-to-one interaction, while receiving additional help with activities of daily living. Senior Companion Volunteers provide services through professional non-profit partner stations—like yours—to ensure that service recipient homes have been assessed for safety and that the volunteer is only one source of support clients receive in the home. PCOA recruits, vets, and orients the volunteers, and there is no cost to partner stations, or clients for Senior Companion social and respite services. You may also choose to enroll your current eligible volunteers so that they may receive AmeriCorps Seniors’ incentives (financial, social, and lifelong learning)! Senior Companion Volunteers can:

5. Help service recipients engage with the community in meaningful ways 6. Help older adults age in place longer 7. Share helpful information and community resources

1. Reduce loneliness and isolation for your most vulnerable service recipients 2. Assist with transportation and light tasks of daily living 3. Provide additional respite to unpaid caregivers 4. Be an extra set of eyes and ears in the home for your professional team
