Welcome back ORPS Health and Fitness Enthusiasts, “ New ” is the theme, new committee members and new fitness equipment! Let me start by introducing myself and our committee members. My name is Cindy Rose and I will be your new Health & Fitness Chair. We bought at ORPS in 2019. My partner Jill was newly retired and I was working full time driving back and forth on weekends and often made it during weekdays to enjoy concerts and participate in as many activities as I could. Recently, after 34 years “ in the trenches ” of hormonal middle schoolers, I retired from doing what I loved best: teaching physical education. I look forward to serving our fitness community with new ideas and ways to keep us active, safe and healthy. Here are the other members of our team: • Cathy Stockman (treasurer) and her family moved into ORPS in 2018. As a way to give back to her community, she joined our team. She believes that fitness is not just about exercise, but making healthy lifestyle choices, including proper nutrition, adequate rest and stress management. Cathy enjoys family walks/hikes, pickleball, football and a good book! • Maureen (Mo) Reininger and her husband John, bought their first ever RV in ORPS in 2018. After many years enjoying all the exercise options and activities at ORPS, she chose to volunteer on the committee that deals with the activity most important to her, Health & Fitness! She hopes to encourage more people to use the fitness center and participate in the many classes, seminars and events the Health & Fitness Committee supports. • Bobbie McDonald (secretary) and her husband Pat became owners in 2019. “ We love it here at ORPS, things we enjoy are our new (and old) friendships, golf, swimming, pickleball, Singo, you name it, we love this place. ” It was a nice fit for Bobbie when she was asked to be a part of the H & F committee. She is passionate about keeping us all moving to stay healthy. “ The gym is such a great place to start and meet new people ”.
Hopefully, you were able to come out to our Open House. Not only did we showcase our new equipment, we want to encourage people to use the gym safely and not be afraid to ask for help when trying out something new. Our Fitness Center came together because there were reserved funds in the budget for our gym. The equipment money was to be released on a 3 year plan. Phase 1 was the FreeMotion Cardio machines: treadmills, elliptical, stationary/recumbent bikes, and a fantastic rowing machine. This summer, it was decided that phase 2 and 3 would be combined to make available the remaining strength equipment a year sooner. There will be a few other pieces of equipment that we are raising funds for this year. We are getting “ more plates for the weights ” and a few other recommended pieces. To accomplish this, we will have several fun - filled fundraising events: Silent Disco and a Pickle Golf Tournament in January (more information to follow). Our goal is to bring smiles and laughs as we raise funds and you participate in something new. We are going to do our traditional “ Pathway to ORPS Fitness ” brick sales as well. It takes a village and we want to work together and be the voice for our fitness community. Speaking of working together, we all need to keep the machines working efficiently and effectively by taking care of our gym and each other. Disinfectant wipes are hanging in dispensers to wipe down your equipment. Thank you to those of you who bring your own towel and are great at cleaning up after yourself. There are microfiber towels/ windex to clean machines and Spray way Glass cleaner (no ammonia) to wipe off fingerprints that grease up the screens (remember to spray the cloth first, then wipe down). Conveniently, we are placing a basket for dirty cleaning cloths, so we can put out fresh ones more often. We are behind those people who are there to keep us healthy, strong and fit. There are many different avenues and we hope you will want to become a part of our Health and Fitness community. We have “ interest forms ”, and we are looking to expand our team. Please remember that the committee members are all volunteers trying to improve the gym for all of us.
Serving you, Cindy Rose — Health & Fitness Chair
