For better or worse, Christmas has become synonymous with giving and receiving gifts. I suppose the tradition began because of the fact that Christmas is all about the giving God ’ s great gift, His Son, Jesus— the gift that came all wrapped up in “ swaddling ” clothes. And, oh, what a gift it was! When you unwrap it, even today, it is the ultimate gift that keeps on giving. What do we find there? In the words of the angel, we find the antidote to all our fears, “ fear not ”; we find a promise of joy, “ I bring you good tidings that will cause great joy for all the people ”; we find the possibility of peace, “ and on Earth peace on whom His favor rests ”; and we find best of all, freedom from our sins, “ today a Savior has been born to you. ” “ You shall call his name Jesus because He shall save his people from their sins. ” No wonder we exchange gifts at Christmas, for there, that first Christmas we received the greatest gift of all. Join us this Christmas season at ORPS Chapel where everyone is welcome.
