It gives me great pleasure to introduce BIFA’s Annual Report for 2023, which summarises some of the work undertaken by the trade association to help its members address the issues they faced during the year. I hope you like the shorter format. You will see on pages 3-5 an array of facts and figures about our activities.

Policy & Compliance
Two brand new initiatives were launched, the Business Leaders Forum, and we held the first meeting of our Sustainable Logistics Policy Group.
2023 started with my appointment as director general; followed in May by the election of a new national chair, Charles Hogg and vice chair, Keith Baguley. Also, in January, we hosted another successful Freight Service Awards which had received a record number of entries. Our well-established awards provide a fantastic opportunity to showcase businesses and rising stars, which is great to see. Meeting members is something I really enjoy, and a repeat of the BIFA Village at the record-breaking Multimodal 2023, enabled our team to do just that. During the year, our goal was to improve our engagement with members, both regionally and digitally. We made five appointments to strengthen the work of our regional and policy & compliance teams. We also strengthened and expanded our events team. Throughout 2023, we increased our focus on sustainability, developing our training, and strengthening our in-person engagement with members across all regions. During the year, it was great to hear feedback on all our additional efforts ranging from the Business Leaders Forum to increasing the number of policy groups and we ended the year with a real buzz amongst the team for all that was being planned for 2024.

BIFA’s 2nd apprentice joined Shelby Merchant, Events
Our teams continue to represent our members on a variety of fronts with high levels of engagement with HMRC, various government departments, other trade associations and key stakeholders. Any feedback is always welcome, either through any of these meetings, or directly via me or one of my colleagues. We ended 2023 in good shape with significant momentum, a clear strategy, and a record number of members. I would like to thank all the staff within BIFA, as well as the members who volunteer to be part of our Policy and Regional Groups, for the work that they did in 2023. Their commitment and support are appreciated.
