door, and n ear by a sale for th e bene fit of th e church. In A rgentina th é p riests have no t nearly as much power and influence over th e people as in Paraguay. But even in P aragu ay th e power of the priests is declining, and will decline much faste r before long. Many of th e educated class are finding th a t they are no t w h at they ought to be, and th a t th e church is a hindrance to th e advance m ent of th e country. P aragu ay ’s Need To-Day Some tim e ago an educated young man, son of an ex-m inister, told me th a t they knew th a t our religion was the tru e religion, and th a t th e priests were only robbing th e people, “ b u t,” he said, “ before long we, th e young people, are going to throw th e p riests ou t of th e country.” I said, “You will th en ju st go into m aterialism , and have no relig ion a t all.” Then he said, “Why don’t you send good men to teach us the tr u th ? ” Yes, th a t is th e g reat need of P arag u a y to-day—more spirit-filled men and women to save th e situation. Peo ple are getting tire d of th e hypocrisy of the Roman Catholic Church, and are leaving h er in disgust, to go into infi- delism and m aterialism . This is to be seen much more in A rgentina th a n in P aragu ay as A rgentina is much more advanced. But P aragu ay is following in th e footsteps of A rgentina, and is now passing th rough a critical tim e; she is now, as it were, in th e balance. She has no t yet throw n out th é priests. She has not yet throw n th e Roman Catholic religion overboard, b u t th a t is coming. In th e meantime w hat will th e Church of Christ do? W ill she come to th e rescue? W ill she send reinforcem ents before it is too late, or will she leave P araguay to th e mercy of the prince of th is world? In ten years’ tim e, yea, in five y ears’ tim e it may be too la te: th e opportunity may be gone forever, and these poor deceived and lo st souls may be lost forever. May th e tru e Church of God have a clear view of th e pressing
