Technical information
Each tape developed by Scley features a selection of materials which conditions mechanical, chemical and insulating properties. Performance parameters are coded with icons which specify bonding strength, temperature resistance limits, tensility, or the maximum outdoor/indoor application time. Product coding When choosing an adhesive tape, think of what you want to use it for and in what conditions. This will help determine tape properties. Following icons tell the most important features of every tape in the range. Those icons are used on all Scley products for easy reference.
Bonding strength from 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest)
UV resistance
Temperature resistance
Corrugated for easy tearing
For smooth surfaces
For rough surfaces
For very rough surfaces
How to prepare the substrate? It is recommended to prepare the surface before applying the tape. The surface should be dry, clean and degreased. Porous surfaces, like powdery plasterworks or flaking coats of paint need special pretreatment (e.g. priming with a suitable product).
How to apply a masking tape so it will not peel off by itself?
l D o not touch the adhesive layer when handling and applying the tape. l The tape won’t peel off by itself if you press it down by wiping with a soft cloth directly after application. l N o matter the type of tape or surface, it is always a good idea to test the adhesion. l For double-sided tapes, the type of surface plays the most important role. l R ough and porous surfaces provide poor adhesion. l U se self-adhesive tape at temperatures not lower than regular room temperatures. How to peel off a tape and get clean and neat masking edges? l O ptimal effect of straight and clean edges is obtained by removing the tape immediately after painting (before the paint dries completely). l A ll tapes should be removed from the painted surface side, at an angle of about 40 degrees, avoiding sudden movements. l Pay attention to the maximum outdoor and indoor application time of the tape. Timber is an extremely difficult and chalenging surface, so make a test taping before first use. To avoid tearing off the wood fibers when peeling off the tape, removing it slowly with extreme caution. Basic rules for applying adhesive tape
l A lways perform a test taping before first use. l A pply the tape to a clean surface only. l K eep the tape in the box and away from freezing and high temperatures. l A pply and remove the tape at temperatures from +5°C to +40°C. l A pply the tape very carefully to plastic and natural stone.
