If we allow ourselves to go without studying God's Word, we are going to be in real trouble. Evidently they feel, "It is what you learn, after you think you know it all, that is really the most important." Socrates, in his declarations at Delphi, had as his motto, "Know thyself." But that is not what Scrip ture is saying. You see, there is only torment when we try to un derstand ourselves. The thing we should seek to know is the Word of God. Paul said, "I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day." There are certain elements of Bible study which follow in a nat ural progression. They cannot be overlooked. The first is the word Page 29
