want to make certain that God is honored and glorified, you will have to work in that same way. Someone has taken the time to study out and analyze man's life time activities. If he works from the age of 21 to his 65th birthday, he will put in about 12,000 days of work in his life. That will consist of approximately 77,000 hours while he is between the ages of 21 to 65. Now those are not really many when you consider that from age 21 to 65 there is a total potential of 561,000 hours alloted to him; well over half a million. So, he is only working 77,000 hours. Now, if you are 45 years of age, you have about 5,000 days left to work, or about 36,000 hours. On the other hand, if you are 60 years of age, you have only 1,300 days more of work to do, and only about 9,000 hours. How insignificant in the light of your original potential of 561,000 hours. The question is, are you a workman who will not need to be ashamed because you have studied to show yourself ap proved unto God? Webster defines ashamed as a painful emotion ex cited by a consciousness of guilt, shortcoming, or impropriety." It is a suffering of a disgrace and a dishonor. The last part of the verse says that we are to "rightly divide the word of truth." Those two words, "rightly dividing" appear nowhere else in the New Testament except right here. I like the idea of the translation being "ever cutting a straight path; driving a straight fur row. Any farmer will tell you that there has to be a certain pride in his work of ploughing. Other neigh bors will come and observe his accomplishments; they are out in Page 32
