Engaging Communities Through Issues Forums

Appendix 3: Emai l Invitation to Forum Participants from Planning Committee 2018/2019

Recently you received an invitation in the mail to the University of Delaware’s Health and Farm Vitality Forum to be held on Thursday, September 20, 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. The planning committee members personally suggested you receive an invitation because they believe the representation of your organization is essential to this discussion and the unique opportunity to identify issues and solutions. Your perspective and expertise are needed. We are sending you this email version of the letter because we understand that the URL in the letter was not functioning correctly. We apologize for this inconvenience. Below is a link that we know will work. As mentioned before, the Forum is intended to connect individuals and groups to begin a dialogue regarding options to tackle those issues of health and farm management risk through coordinated partnerships and collaborative problem solving. The agenda will provide background information about a number of concerns in the farming population, the impact of health care access and costs of care on the vitality of farming enterprises, as well as on the current health care system in Delaware specific to farm operators/personnel. Later in the morning we’ll be working in small groups to reflect on this information to identify i ssues that can realistically be addressed. After lunch the work will continue in small groups to determine potential solutions and next steps. If you would like more information about some of the issues facing farmers, please read the attached briefing paper that summarizes some recent research regarding this topic.

Your knowledge is an invaluable resource to this conversation. We hope you will accept the invitation and come share your insight with other vested stakeholders.
