Engaging Communities Through Issues Forums

Appendix 5: One-Month Fol low Up Letter to Delaware Participants and Stakeholders - 2018/2019

Greetings and Happy New Year,

I am excited to bring you up to date on several activities that have occurred as a result of the September Linking Farm Vitality and Health Forum in Delaware.

The special issue of the Delmarva Farmer has been completed and was delivered during the first week in January to over 10,000 subscribers. It includes information on the need for the Forum, the Forum activities and provides information about health, finances, and resources for the farming community. Topics include how to conduct a financial wellness check-up, information on the 10 Essential health benefits, resources for succession planning, as well as many others. Finally, resources available for Maryland and Delaware farm

families are highlighted on the last page of the issue. A link to this issue can be found at https://www.udel.edu/content/dam/udelImages/canr/pdfs/extension/economic-personal- development/Delmarva-Supplment-insert-Health-and-Wellness-Insert.pdf

In addition, the Delaware Libraries, LibGuide for DE Farms is posted and available for users. The URL is http://guides.lib.de.us/defarm. Please feel free to share this site with clientele.

Lastly, we had great success during Ag Week in Harrington and the Horticulture Expo in Dover DE. Many producers stopped by to get health screenings offered by Beebe Hospita l and Westside Health’s Mobile Unit, learned about colon cancer from Bay Health representatives and talked with Extension staff about succession planning, health insurance and farm vitality. Between the two events over 100 people participated in a health s creening. It’s been a great success! Thanks to all the partners for helping to make it happen. Very soon, I will be sending you another email with the upcoming scheduled dates for the Mental Health First Aid Kit training. We will be offering one in each county. This will be open to ag producers and professionals from all other fields who support agricultural producers. Registration can be found at: Mental Health First Aid Training . Click the title for the registration form. The training is free, and seating is limited.

I want to thank you for all the collaborative efforts and outreach to make all these successes happen. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have additional questions or ideas.

Sincerely,

93
