Fort Worth Police Department Strategic Plan

West Division The West Patrol Division serves a thriving and sprawling community. The general boundaries span from the west bank of the Trinity River to Parker County, Granbury Road to the south and Jacksboro Highway to the north. Sections under this Division include Patrol Operations and Community Operations, NPOs and Patrol Criminal Investigations. West Division continues to grow in key areas like the 7th Street Corridor, and Museum District development is quickly becoming one of the City’s most desirable places to live, work, and play. In the last five years, the expansion of Texas Christian University (TCU) drove significant revitalization efforts in the neighborhoods adjacent to the University, prompting a virtual population explosion, increasing the need for additional patrol officers, bike officers, and NPOs. The 7th Street Entertainment District is a combination of urban style living

with high-end condominiums, apartments, retail shops, restaurants, nightclubs, and other businesses, creating one of the more desirable places to live and work in the City. There are more than 60 alcohol-related businesses in the West 7th Corridor, and the high concentration of bars and restaurants accounts for about 28% of all liquor sales in the city. As a result, there has been an increase in reported crimes on the weekends and during evening hours in the area. Approximately 65% of all reported crimes for the area occur from Friday to Sunday, accounting for 51.9% of all West Division police reports taken between the hours of 2200 and 0200 hours. One goal for West Division is to create a permanent Bike Patrol Unit modeled after the downtown unit to serve the entertainment corridor. Bike patrol officers are a visual deterrent to crime, maneuver well through crowded streets, and easily make personal connections to patrons, residents, and business owners. Another area enjoying the promise of significant growth within West Division is the Walsh Ranch Development located west of 820 on both sides of Interstate 30 and the Interstate 20 interchange. The development is a 7500+ acre master planned community estimated to have upwards of 49,000 residents as well as retail space and light commercial throughout. Installations of the base infrastructure for roads, water, sewer, and power was completed during the first phase of the project. A FWPD goal is to identify a location and to initiate
