Fort Worth Police Department Strategic Plan
Support Bureau TACTICAL COMMAND Tactical Operations Division
The Tactical Operations Division is comprised of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Section and the Special Response Team (SRT) Section. SWAT is trained and equipped to respond to and resolve incidents classified as unusual, or high-risk, that require advanced tactical skills. The K-9 Unit is also within the SWAT Section. Their primary responsibility is to conduct searches for criminal suspects and track lost persons in Fort Worth. SRT members respond to tactical situations and provide

containment until SWAT arrives, but their primary focus is crime suppression. The units within the Tactical Operations Division must continually monitor emergent trends to ensure they are sufficiently trained and equipped to disrupt new threats to law enforcement and citizens. Recent accomplishments in the Tactical Operations Division include the creation of a sixth SRT team to service the far north area of the City in anticipation of the sixth Patrol Division being activated. All SRT officers have completed basic SWAT and Mobile Field Force training to effectively deal with large scale events. The K-9 Unit obtained ballistic vests for all the canines and replaced two of the dogs. The SWAT Unit is pursuing training in air, waterway, and railway, responses to counter possible attacks against City infrastructure. SRT is evaluating less-lethal options to provide more options to officers as they deal with dangerous individuals. The K-9 Unit is pursuing accreditation in the National K-9 Organization and plans to expand canine capabilities by training some dogs in bomb detection.
