The Lakes South Morang College Newsletter COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS
FAMILY PARTNERSHIPS MATTER: CULTIVATING TRUST FROM THE FRONT GATE TO THE CLASSROOMS
Throughout the Term, The Lakes has been identified among the educational sector as an exemplar school that fosters home - school partnerships that emphasise the joint efforts required to enhance, elevate and enable a successful learning experience for all students.
Of particular note is the manner through which our College has shifted towards an emphasis on collaboration that has supported a transformation and dynamic partnership to develop within our College community, ensuring actionable involvement opportunities for parents and carers in their child ’ s learning. The Lakes Principal Team, comprising of Bill, Marcus and Bonnie, were invited to present as key speakers at the recent North - Eastern Metropolitan Area Regional Principals Forum. The team presented to over 250 Principals from the area around the key beliefs and benefits of nurturing strong connections between home and school.
Some of the key messages presented included:
1.
All families and school staff want the best for children and young people.
2.
All families have the capacity to support their children ’ s learning and wellbeing.
3.
Families and school staff are equal partners (we do “ with ” families not “ to ” families).
4.
The responsibility for cultivating and sustaining partnerships at school and home is one shared between school leaders, staff and families.
5.
Partnering starts with building relational trust.
