Aerospace Malaysia Innovation Centre (AMIC) demonstrated its commitment to advancing Sustainable Aviation (SA) in line with Malaysia’s 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK12) and the Malaysian Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2050 through various initiatives including Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC), Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Letter of Intent (LoI). As a key enabler of innovation in aerospace sustainability, AMIC works closely with MIGHT to drive public-private partnerships that support decarbonisation and green aviation initiatives. One of AMIC’s key focus areas is the development of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), particularly using used cooking oil (UCO), a readily available bio-feedstock in Malaysia. However, challenges such as UCO collection inefficiencies and net exports hinder local SAF production. To address this, AMIC partnered with Apeiron Bioenergy, one of Asia’s largest UCO collectors, alongside MBI Selangor, SELATI, and BCS Aviation (Sarawak), to strengthen the UCO ecosystem.
Key Collaborations & Milestones :
• Feasibility Study for SAF Ecosystem in Selangor. • AMIC, Apeiron Bioenergy, and MBI Selangor signed a MoC to assess the potential of waste-to-fuel conversion and SAF infrastructure development in Selangor. • SAF Distribution & Logistics for Business & General Aviation (BAGA). • An MoU with BCS Aviation (Sarawak) was established to explore SAF supply chain logistics, supporting RMK12 and the Aerospace Blueprint 2050 by catering to the growing demand for sustainable fuel in regional aviation. • AMIC Partners with University College Sedaya International (UCSI) & University of Malaya (UM) to Advance Bio-Feedstock Research. AMIC has signed an LoI with UCSI University and the UM to explore algae-based bio-feedstock as a complementary solution. The initiative supports Pillar 2 (“Feedstock & Supply Chain Ecosystem”) of AMIC’s Sustainable Aviation Roadmap.
