Global Federation of Competitiveness Councils (GFCC) Annual Meeting

Queen’s University Belfast, Northern Ireland UK 11 November 2024

The 2024 Global Federation of Competitiveness Councils (GFCC) Annual Meeting took place at Queen’s University Belfast, bringing together members, fellows, and thought leaders to reflect on global competitiveness. The discussions focused on Northern Ireland’s transformation, the role of universities in innovation, regional competitiveness, decarbonisation, frontier markets, and global geostrategic shifts. A highlight of the event was the session titled “Future Themes in Competitiveness Strategy,” where Ts Rushdi Abdul Rahim, President and CEO of MIGHT, introduced a foresight planning framework known as Diagnosis, Prognosis, and Prescription. This framework is designed to help

organisations navigate uncertainty. He emphasised that foresight is about preparing for multiple possibilities rather than trying to predict the future, which enables better risk management and the development of resilient strategies. Additionally, the GFCC launched its flagship report, “Call to Action: Innovate the Sustainable Future”, which offers strategic recommendations for advancing sustainability and innovation across various sectors. The report calls for urgent and collective action to address global challenges and promote inclusive growth. The meeting highlighted the importance of innovation, foresight, and collaboration in shaping a resilient and sustainable future.
