The fun Parker Hydraulics and Pneumatics Limited is proud to have been involved in the stage set of RobbieWilliams’ ‘Take The Crown Tour’.Working in conjunction with Brilliant Stages, Parker Hydraulics and Pneumatics Limited was commissioned to supply and install all of the hydraulic hose assemblies used as part of the spectacular set. The silver-coloured Phrenology head was built with six panels in the cranium which Brilliant Stages designed to open hydraulically to release a cloud of helium balloons into the air as it tracked downstage. CarryingWilliams and co-star Olly Murs, a further hydraulic mechanism in the neck allowed the head to swing 25° either side of the vertical.

The Science The word “Pneumatic” originates from the Greek word meaning “breath” and is a branch of physics applied to technology that makes use of gas or pressurised air. Pneumatic systems used extensively in industry are commonly powered by compressed air or compressed inert gases.A centrally located compressor powers cylinders, air motors, and other pneumatic devices. A pneumatic system controlled through manual or automatic valves is selected when it provides a lower cost, more flexible, or safer alternative to electric motors and actuators. The word “Hydraulic” originates from the Greek words meaning “water” and “pipe” and is the science that deals with the laws governing water or other liquids in motion and their applications in engineering. At a very basic level, hydraulics is the liquid version of pneumatics. Fluid mechanics provides the theoretical foundation for hydraulics, which focuses on the engineering uses of fluid properties. In fluid power, hydraulics are used for the generation, control, and transmission of power by the use of pressurised liquids.
