It wasn’t long, before the crummy, dry cannabis lled the air with intoxicating fumes strong enough to momentarily debilitate anyone within a ve- house radius. “It sure got everyone high for a moment,” said Hig- gins, “but this just ain’t the way to do it. You know, Safety First. ” Fire Chief Higgins reported that the ordeal actually began with a plumbing issue, for which a unit was dispatched to address at around 11:30pm, just a few hours earlier, when a clog caused the tenant’s toilet to explode. “ ere wasn’t much we could do to help with that mess except console those a ected,” Higgins said. Ac- cording to the report, a heap of used bathroom towels was used to wipe up the mess in the small, 6x6 bathroom, but it was not enough to stop the ood of sewage that leaked deep into the oor- ing and began raining in the building’s converted cellar. Mr. Jollydab proceeded to place a large fan in the bathroom, in order to dry the area, then set o to clean the “man-cave” directly below. “It was there that he encountered what he believed to be a huge buzzing noise in the ceiling,” Higgins reported. Upon closer examination, Jollydab determined the source of the buzzing to be a large hornet’s nest. Unable to locate the hive, or remove the drywall, the tenant “smashed through the ceiling using a nearby hatchet,” haphazardly removing drywall, wood and insulation, until a three-foot hole to the ground oor con rmed that the hive was indeed, the “large box fan in the soiled bathroom.”

Have they visited earth and if so was it their dog that le a dooty on the park strip? ese are just some questions the local chap- ter of Freemont Scientacular Nerdry Society (FSNS) are hoping to answer when they make a key address later this aernoon to residents of the Stinky Shady Creek Nursing Home.

ACADEMICS PLAN TO DIG THROUGH 20LB ICE CREAM
Remember that 20-pound chunk of ice cream that blasted through a man’s roof last week? “Boom, this huge scoop of ice cream just came out of nowhere through our ceiling,” Ken Malman said over the weekend. “It only missed the fam- ily cat by inches.” Malman, of Mount Hasherhorn, said he was just starting to load a wake and bake bowl when

the giant scoop of ice cream, avored mint chip, landed on the other side of the co ee table. e incident le both him, and his cross-eyed cat, traumatized, even though both devoured an estimated third of the scoop before managing to shove the rest in a nearly-empty freezer. But, eager to know exactly who and what could produce a huge ying scoop of ice cream, Malman contacted professors at Can- natown University to pick it up for analysis. e Department of Megamunchies were able to give Dispatches a look into the research they’ve done. "Well it's really creamy mint," Dr. Phillips said, wiping bits of chocolate from his beard. "Right now it's a little contaminated with stu like insulation and this poor gentle- man's roof. It is due to the rarity of nding one somewhat still intact, that has researchers all abuzz about the specimen. “I can’t wait to dig in, and get a bite of knowledge,” said Vivica Carlyle, graduate student at CU. “ e question on everybody’s mind, rst and fore- most, is whether this ice cream is as good, or better, than Häagen Dazs.” Researchers are planning a 12-week study, or "'til it runs out."

Elephants banned from swimming hole a er huge poo incident Following a terrible incident at the Canna- town swimming hole, involving what could only be described as “a massive amount of fecal matter,” elephants and their closest ge- netic relatives will not be allowed to use the beach and swimming area going forward. According to those on the scene, a group swimmers encountered a “gross spectacle” in the mid-a ernoon, partially washed ashore, partially still submerged, and unidenti able through the murky waters. By the end of the day, the explosively large fecal emission had a ected not only adults, but completely cov- ered some children, to an alarming degree. And it’s not the rst time it’s happened. In fact, the swimming hole is world-renowned, tragically, for its widespread, recurring and devastating elephant doodies in the water. “I’m not sure why in nearly a half century we’ve been unable to come up with sensible elephant swimming hole rules,” said resident Reto O’Bork. “It’s incredibly di cult to feel safe and clean when people just let elephants do whatever they want, especially in what should be considered a safe, public space.” “C’mon, we live in a society here,” O’Bork added. Every time elephant swimming laws have come up, groups of menacing elephants have shown up and intimidated those voting. In one court case they were also able to overturn the voting results simply by crowding a fo- rum and blasting their trunks at full volume. e incident became national news, simply because those present stood strong and chose not to address the elephants in the room. “And the elephants apparently took it very personally and have been shitting in the wa- ter ever since,” said city park manager Cheri Poss. "is shouldn't happen every weekend." "Obviously not all elephants are bad, nor do we want all of them to go away," said Rever- end John Worlock. "But can we not all agree that they shouldn't be shitting on everyone in public? If they can't be trusted to follow the rules that everyone else follows, then why would they expect us to let them hang out with us anyway? Is it not madness? JOE PALEC: THE DOODLER OF DENVER
What began as sketches in a notebook long ago has become an icon of the Colorado landscape. Joe Palec (@joepalec), whose complex, doodle-style art pieces have sprung up across the region not only in the cannabis space, but in murals, products and establishments, took a moment to catch us up on his latest works in the neighborhood. Can you tell us about your journey as an artist? How did you start? I was always good at drawing. Art classes, doodling in my note- book, Pictionary. It all came naturally for me. In later years, it became like a party trick. I'd say “ What do you want me to draw?” and I would draw it. A few times people would say, “Why don't you do more art?” So I gave it a try! I made a few canvases, did some design contests, and then got my own art studio. e rest is history.
How did you nd your way out to Denver from Wisconsin? My mom is from Colo- rado. I grew up in Wisconsin and went to UW Whitewater for a year before I decided I didn't like it. My dad told me I could stick with college and maybe transfer OR move to Colorado with my mom. It was a no brainer. I moved to Colorado. From there I thrived in the cannabis indus- try. I went from sign spinner, to trimmer, to budtender, to sales. e cannabis industry not only gave me a great job career, it also gave me my rst art gigs. I still carry my Midwesterness with me and celebrate my roots. But Denver showed me a life I couldn't have found anywhere else. What or who are your biggest inuences? Artistically, it's the Where’s Waldo books. Since I was a little kid, I loved the idea of art and illustrations to be entertaining. I want to channel that in my artwork. But other than that its lms, TV, music, and any other forms of creative storytelling. e weirder the better. How would you describe your style? Has it evolved over time? I like to call it “extreme doodling.” I could say I illustrate using a stream of consciousness translated through perplexing cartoons until I ll up the page with a plethora of mind bending scenes and whimsical imagery that challenge the rules of perspective. But really, it is just a bunch of doodles mashed together. So why not call it what it is. What themes or messages do you explore in your work? Absurdism and juxtaposition are the two main ingredients to any Joe Palec piece. Like right now, I’m looking at a piece

What has been the biggest challenge in your career? Imposter Syndrome is real. I get in my own head about whether or not I deserve any of this. But I remind myself that I have been patient, I've put in the hours, and I always try my best. Not to mention, I still have a lot of ways to go before I can pat myself on the back. is journey isn't over! Tell us about this issue's cover. is cover is inspired by “Summer Time.” rough a can- nabis lens, I wanted to relive my summer days playing in the pool, backyard activities, and eating tasty treats. I encourage everyone to take a deep look and see if we have some of the same cherished moments of summer's past. Are there any past or upcoming projects or exhibitions you’re excited about/want to share about? e cannabis industry has been so good to me. Bud and Mary's, PAX, Native Roots, Mammoth, Jars, and O.pen. I can't thank them enough for giving me all these projects. My new chapter has been working closely with food and drink establishments. Renegade Brewery, Honey House, Little Ar- thur’s, Odells Bagels, Wagyu Den, and King of Wings to name a few. ere is a new 16th Street installation I worked on with Wae Cone Club and Elliott Industries funded by isIsMyDenver and Farm to Spaceship on the mall right now. It was really exciting to be a part of the rejuvena- tion of Downtown Denver.
I did where a bunch of ‘basic witches’ are doing yoga. It just doesn't make sense. And it's interesting. And I nd it funny. Overall its storytelling. I’m giving everyone a glimpse of what I think of when prompted with a theme or subject. Can you walk us through your creative process? I wake up and immediately get to work. I thrive o of the residual ‘dream juices’ that are coursing through my veins. I usually put on a movie or TV show that thematically relates to the artwork. Speci cally one that I've seen before. It helps me stay in the mood and keep track of time. When I draw I make it up as I go along. Im- provising scenes and characters that vibe with the rest of the piece. I drink co ee and chew gum. I stay focused on producing as many doodles and backgrounds as I can. And when my imagination is running on fumes, I’ll eat a big dinner, maybe a few cocktails, and go to bed ready to do it all again the next day. Do you have any rituals or habits that help you stay inspired? I always make time to en- joy life outside of work. Trips to the museum, going to the movies, hanging with friends. If art imitates life, then I need to be living life. Everyday we are presented with subjects, ideas, themes, motifs. It's worth forgetting about art and absorbing your surroundings. My coworker once told me “I work to live, not live to work.” I’ve always liked that.
