WHAT WE MEAN BY POWERFUL DESIGN

Power has changed. Once concealed, quietly doing its job behind walls or beneath surfaces, it has stepped into the spotlight. Today, power doesn’t just function. It speaks. It makes a statement. It becomes a design decision, part of the visual language of a space. At Byrne, we believe power deserves that visibility. It is never an add‑on or an afterthought. It’s designed in from the very start, considered alongside form, finish, and material until it feels architecturally inevitable. When done right power belongs in a space, it belongs there.

Color, in particular, plays a powerful role in that story. While green may not to our Irish roots, Byrne’s design language exists in a much broader spectrum. Color is an emotional connector. It invites interaction, creates familiarity, and shapes how people experience the objects around them. It can energize a space or soften it, sharpen focus or encourage pause. Color may live on the surface—but its impact reaches much deeper. The same spirit carries into our materials and forms. We push into expressive finishes, unexpected textures, and bold new designs not because it’s easy, but because it opens doors. We’re deliberately designing where other power suppliers don’t, encouraging designers and furniture manufacturers to imagine more, collaborate more, and see power as an opportunity instead of a constraint.

Powerful Design also means choice. Our products are intentionally created to be customized to reflect the identity of a space, a brand, or a designer’s vision. It means there’s endless ways to make it your own. From expansive color palettes and new plated finishes to creative material explorations and entirely custom designs, opportunity lives in the details. Byrne is no stranger to the custom one-of-one. “We make bold choices because we want to inspire creativity around power. When you play with color, materials, and form, power becomes part of the design story. Not something designers work around, but something they can build from.” — Parker Genau, Industrial Designer at Byrne

This philosophy is what we call Powerful Design.

It starts with curiosity. Our founder famously began ideas with whatever tools were close at hand—a pencil, a napkin, a tabletop. That instinct to move quickly from idea to object still defines how Byrne’s engineers and design teams work today. Whether a product is meant to blend in seamlessly or make a bold visual statement, our approach remains the same: if you can dream it, we can build it.

Powerful Design thrives on partnership. Some of our most exciting innovations begin as off‑the‑cuff ideas: a sketch, a “what if.” We’re built for that moment. With rapid prototyping, deep engineering expertise, and agile manufacturing, we collaborate closely to bring new ideas to life. In the end, Powerful Design is about readiness. Ready to adapt. Ready to tinker and experiment. Ready to go further than expected. Because when power is designed with purpose, it doesn’t just support a space, it helps define it. 

Byrne’s Latest Artist Collaboration: Emilia Schettino

When it comes to customization and self-expression, partnering with talented artists is a no-brainer for Byrne. The company embraces opportunities to highlight artists whose work reflects the creative spirit of their culture and community. As Byrne strengthens their roots in Mexico, it felt right to collaborate with a local Mexican artist whose values and vision align with their own. Enter Emilia Schettino, Byrne’s latest featured artist. Her large-scale murals, now featured at the new Byrne Mexico Facility in Tlalpan, bring a shared story to life where art and innovation come together to power meaningful, everyday connections.

What drew Byrne to Emilia was her refreshing, handcrafted, humanistic style. In the era of AI, seeing something hand-drawn and heartfelt is a nice break from the computer- generated nature of the modern world. Her freehand approach also mirrors Byrne’s mindset of innovation: don’t overthink it. New ideas thrive when the mind embraces experimentation, and straight lines aren’t required during a brainstorm session. After learning about Byrne’s commitment to community and connection, Emilia was excited to partner, as this was something that struck a cord with her own values, inspiring her vision for the project. “I wanted to go beyond illustrating a product and instead create a visual story about how connection goes beyond function, it’s about people coming together, sharing moments, and building relationships in everyday life.” The illustrations capture those connections—people working, playing, creating, living—all interwoven by the flowing lines of power cords. These cords serve as subtle visual links, representing the invisible bonds that connect us all, and Byrne’s role in keeping people connected. To celebrate the completion of the murals in Mexico, Byrne created a collection of t-shirts, notebooks, phone cases, and framed prints featuring Emilia’s artwork, giving team members in both the U.S. and Mexico new ways to wear, share, and stay connected through design. 

A Closer Look

At

What’s Worth

Keeping

It should have been discarded. Instead, it asked for a closer look.

There’s a moment, somewhere between intention and outcome, where control has the chance to lose its grip. That moment is often where magic lives. A detail lands slightly off. A surface reacts differently than expected. Something shifts, duplicates, fractures, and suddenly the image carries a kind of energy that no amount of planning could have produced. It feels less like something made and more like something uncovered. In one instance for Byrne, what began as a straightforward composition unraveled without warning during the final stages of photo editing. The work was in its most careful phase: removing rogue bits of dust and fine-tuning color. Photoshop was being used as it so often is, as a tool of precision and correction.

Then, without warning, that same process became the vessel for something else entirely. In a moment of error, the program glitched. The photograph collapsed and rebuilt itself incorrectly, splitting into blocks of color and light, each section drifting slightly out of sync with the next. Pieces of the original image repeated, stretched, or disappeared entirely, replaced by fragments that felt both familiar and unrecognizable. And focusing in closer only revealed more complex compositions. Within a single moment, it had become a “Where’s Waldo” of the original photograph. Those familiar with the program could notice Photoshop interface tool tips slipping into view, as if the process itself had been folded into the final composition. What should have been invisible became integral to the new finished piece.

33

A Closer Look At What’s Worth Keeping

There is a quiet beauty in things coming apart. When a single composition breaks into pieces, it resists a single reading. It invites the eye to move, to linger, to notice what would have otherwise gone unseen. The unintended combination of elements begins to carry meaning. The most compelling work often holds onto that sense of instability. It never feels fully resolved. It leaves space for interpretation, for movement, for the possibility that something else might emerge if you just get a bit closer or look just a little longer.

34

35

A Closer Look At What’s Worth Keeping

“Not everything worth keeping began intentionally.”

In a world that leans toward refinement and control, these moments of disruption feel rare. They’re a reminder that not everything worth keeping began intentionally. Sometimes value reveals itself through interference, misalignment, and the layering of elements that were never meant to exist together. The natural response is often to undo or start over. For us, the longer we looked, the harder it became to dismiss. The accident revealed something deeper: the tension between control and what emerges when control breaks down. The image had fallen apart, but in doing so, it revealed a new kind of order. It was now more than a singular image. It was many fragmented parts, justaposed in a way no intentional composition could be. 

BYRNE ELECTRICAL SPECIALISTS: THEIR RUNWAY READY MOMENT

Still, most of the work happened behind the curtain. The elegance was there, but it was an engineering elegance. The kind you noticed only if you knew exactly what to look for, or at. But as time moved on, one thing remained the same: if something needed power, Byrne would find a way. Eventually that became more than a promise. It became the company’s signature. Since then, the workplace has changed. Today, the question is no longer simply whether something needs to charge. Of course it does. The real questions are more nuanced now. How does technology enter the room? How does it

naturally fit into the rhythm of the day? How does it adapt as people move, gather, focus, and connect? Increasingly, how does it look while doing all of that? Now, every detail is part of a larger experience. The modern workplace has softened. It has become more expressive and interested in texture and mood. Furniture has shape. Materials have presence. Color carries emotion. Offices are being designed for productivity, but also for feeling. A workplace can be calm, bright, layered, warm, even cinematic. And power has had to come out from hiding.

There was a time when power in the workplace knew how to behave. It stayed out of sight. It lived under desks, behind walls, beneath raised floors. It was infrastructure; essential, yes, but intentionally invisible. The success of a power solution was often measured by how little anyone noticed it at all. Power belonged to the hidden architecture of work. It lived quietly beneath the surface, making everything else possible. And for decades, Byrne built its reputation there. Long before power became part of the

design conversation, Byrne became known for solving the industry’s most complex electrical challenges. The company earned trust the old- fashioned way: through expertise, precision, and an obsessive understanding of how power works within a space. When Byrne entered the office furniture industry with its innovative 8-Trac ® modular wiring system, it shifted expectations. 8-Trac ® was engineered with remarkable adaptability, helping redefine how power could move through the workplace. It was smart and flexible, solving problems at scale.

58

59

Ollie™ balances performance and sculptural simplicity, introducing a softer, more approachable silhouette packed with power. Launching Fall 2026

Power is no longer behind the scenes.

The best solutions today do not have to vanish. While some are meant to recede, others are meant to punctuate. A well-placed power unit can follow the geometry of a table, echo the tone of a finish, or sit with enough confidence to become part of the composition. Byrne understands that balance. The company has spent years refining products that remain technically exact while feeling more resolved in the spaces they occupy. Still grounded in electrical expertise. Still engineered for the real demands of the workplace. Only now, dressed with more intention. Like fashion, workplace design moves through seasons. Forms change. Technology alters the way people behave. Culture has its say, too. The office responds, sometimes quickly, sometimes in quieter shifts that only become obvious once everyone has started designing around them. At the moment, several movements are shaping the conversation. - Power is becoming faster, smarter, and more deeply embedded into the furniture landscape. The old add-on approach feels less natural in a workplace where surfaces are expected to work harder and look calmer. Designers are asking for solutions that feel like part of the original idea, not something added after the fact. A power element should support the workday without disturbing the room around it. As always, performance still matters. But performance now lives alongside the human experience of a space. - After years of restraint, color has begun returning with confidence. Workplaces are moving beyond the safe language of neutral minimalism. Designers are using richer hues and bolder pairings to create rooms with identity. Color is being treated as a tool for atmosphere, a way to make a space feel more personal and less prescribed.

You may not immediately think of Byrne when you think of fashion, and Byrne is comfortable with that. The company remains proud of its reputation as an electrical expert first. That foundation is not being rewritten. But decades spent working with designers, architects, furniture manufacturers, and workplace visionaries have a way of sharpening the eye. Over the decades, Byrne has learned the language of design from the people who shape the spaces where its products live. There is a certain restraint in the way Byrne approaches design. It does not shout. It does not chase novelty for the pleasure of being noticed. The best Byrne products tend to have the assurance of a well-cut jacket. The lines are clean because they need to be. The details are refined because someone cared enough to make them so. Byrne’s work sits where engineering meets aesthetics, in that narrow and demanding space where a product has to perform beautifully and belong visually. That balance matters more than ever. Designers are paying attention to everything from the direction of a wood grain to the hand feel of a material. When that much care goes into a room or a piece of furniture, power can no longer arrive as an afterthought, it has to speak the same visual language as the furniture around it. That change has altered the role of workplace power.

60

61

Byrne Electrical Specialists: Their Runway Ready Moment

After decades of perfecting the technical side of

power, Byrne arrives at this moment with something unexpected: a new point of view.

Power is changing with that shift, no longer staying concealed. Finishes can coordinate, contrast, or quietly reinforce the palette of a room. A small product can carry a surprising amount of visual weight when it is considered properly. In a layered interior, even the functional details have to earn their place. If there is one technology story shaping the modern workplace, it is USB-C. The format has moved from an emerging standard to an everyday expectation. People want faster charging, powering laptops, tablets, phones, and accessories without rethinking the room or hunting for the right connection. And as these devices become more capable, demand for higher wattage also continues to grow.

For Byrne, that means power must be ready for the way people actually work now, with solutions that feel current from the first touch and continue to perform as technology advances. - The sharp-edged language of ultra- corporate environments is loosening with an explosion of smooth curves found everywhere in the industry. The office is no longer expected to prove its seriousness through stiffness. Furniture is becoming more sculptural, more relaxed and more welcoming. Rooms are being designed to support comfort and connection alongside efficiency.

Power is following the same movement. The forms are becoming friendlier, making interaction more intuitive. Products are being asked to live comfortably within softer environments, where the mood of the room matters as much as the floor plan. It is a subtle shift, but an important one. When a workplace feels better, people notice. When the products inside it feel considered, they notice that too.

The latest products carry the company’s evolving design language with even more confidence. They are expressive and refined. Built from the same engineering knowledge that has always defined Byrne, but shaped for interiors that expect more from every visible detail. For a company long known for what happens behind the scenes, the shift feels quietly significant. Byrne is not walking away from its technical foundation. It is giving that foundation a more considered form. The collection fully understands that power has become part of the room. It has to function flawlessly, but it also has to belong, living comfortably among today’s sculptural tables, softer seating, warmer finishes, and personality.

Byrne Electrical Specialists: Their Runway Ready Moment

For decades, Byrne built its name by doing the difficult work well. It engineered dependable systems to power the workplace from places most people never saw. That expertise remains the base layer of everything the company does. But as the conversation around workplace design changes, Byrne continues to change with it. Power now touches the architecture, the furniture, and all the space in between. It becomes part of the story a designer is trying to tell. It makes the engineering more visible, more consequential, and closely tied to the way a space feels. So, while they may never call themselves a fashion brand, there’s no denying the industry is experiencing a design moment; a season where utility and aesthetics are no longer competing priorities, but inseparable ones. And after decades of perfecting the technical side of power, Byrne arrives at this moment with something unexpected: A point of view. They’re still the electrical experts you know and trust. Just with a few new silhouettes up their sleeve. 
