Terra Cat - On The Ground, Issue 11

CEO REPORT

The new XE range – which will eventually comprise four models with payloads between eight and 12 tonnes – boasts an efficient, modern power-train and continuously variable transmission (CVT) that reduces fuel consumption by 35 per cent while lowering CO2 emissions. Early reports of the new 982 XE are that it’s much smoother and quieter than previous models, which has all sorts of operator safety benefits, as well as being a much more efficient machine. At the same time, Terra Cat is preparing for an exciting opportunity to support KiwiRail’s new fleet of Stadler locomotives that have begun arriving from Spain. Each locomotive runs a Cat C175-16 engine rated at 3000hp, while some new, innovative hybrid- diesel shunt locomotives have been confirmed, that will have Cat C13B engines installed. We’ll be assisting KiwiRail with the product support coverage for these engines. Both the C175-16 and C13B will have the highest level of emissions reduction technology installed also. We’re excited for what the future holds across all the industries we work in, and Terra Cat will continue to provide the best support possible to our customers across the construction, forestry, resource and power systems industries. On behalf of the entire Terra team, we wish you a safe and enjoyable holiday season.

Hi there everyone. The first half of the 2024-2025 financial year has been a tough one for many of our customers, particularly those in the construction industry. However, with falling interest rates, a pipeline of fast-tracked infrastructure projects being confirmed by the government, and a number of our other main industries holding up well, there’s a general feeling that things are starting to improve. This improving climate should also coincide neatly with some exciting new Caterpillar models arriving on New Zealand shores early next year, including the revolutionary new medium-sized wheel loaders, and some new Weiler forestry wheel skidders and track feller bunchers. On a recent trip to Weiler in the USA, a number of customers and our forestry management were honoured to get an up-close look at the first of the new generation wheel skidders, the S340, which will fit in between Weiler’s S250 and S450 models. The new S340 is a full hydrostatic skidder that’s been designed to with operator comfort, productivity and ease of service in mind. The cab has been redesigned, with plenty of room and a full turnaround seat. A lot of thought has also gone into the design around serviceability, and the tilting cab provides enhanced access for Cat technicians to maintain and service the machine. Terra has committed to ordering some of these new skidders, which we expect to start arriving towards the end of Q1 2025. There’s also excitement building around a new Cat 982 XE wheel loader that Terra Cat will start bringing into the country around the middle of next year.
